those of you who want CC's really should make the trip out to the left coast and take one home;Sweet
they're not much loved out here due to midget sized parking spaces.
The truck I'm building is sort of a throwback to the early 80's.
The bed is a Vulcan "Super Cradle". The design is a transition between the older sling trucks and the newer wheellift trucks. Unlike the one seen in the Towing museum, the "super" is geared to handle recovery work as well as towing. The one in Mel's pic is a "standard cradle". The upside is it can darn near tow anything with or without wheels intact. the later wheellift trucks have issues with broken suspensions. The downside, is the cradle pans weigh more than the hated dolly bars. So if you have a umotivated driver, they won't like using one of these trucks. In the hands of a skilled driver, they can do miracles. Here's a couple of pics of what it looks like assembled and what mime looks like. I have a pair of serious winches on mime and that is why I am mounting the bed on a 4wd chassis. The intention is to use the truck for some of the more entertaining mountain recoveries.
