SMF conversion on a 6.9/ZF-5

I just need confirmation that a SMF conversion kit with the clutch for a 88-91 7.3/ZF-5 will work on my 87' 6.9? Getting mixed answers from my searches that don't really answer my exact question. In the parts ordering stage on my transmission swap now...and getting anxious

Yes, it will. I'm using a LuK SMF conversion kit for an '88+ 7.3l on my '84 6.9l. Worked with no issues or modifications whatsoever I've been running it 8 years and 50K miles, and have been happy as a clam with it

BTW, after pulling off the clutch that was on my original T-19 and seeing what the pilot bearing looked like, I'm a big fan of the Kevlar pilot bushing...

Just any FYI for making this decision............... When my truck needed a new clutch, I purchased a smf kit and while I have not had any mechanical issue with it, I don't care for the additional noise it makes. I do a lot of driving on dirt roads very slow and the gear noises get very annoying. If I had to do it over again, I'd buy another dual mass.

I used the needle bearing on mine and it looked fine after ~50k....

There's some controversy whether the balance is different between the 7.3 & 6.9 flywheels and if it's enough to matter. The ford manual do state that there's a difference between 6.9 & 7.3 flywheel/balancers, however there is also evidence that the same DM flywheel was used on the 87 6.9s with ZF5, and the LUK flywheel is speced for those motors as well. The general conclusion seems to be that there is a small difference, but it's minor enough not to matter. I had ~50k on my rig with a SM when I tore is apart and I had no issues abnormal vibration nor did I see any evidence of wear or damage internally.
