No, that cannot work, a 12 point is two 6 points. Only 6 or 12 groves can be used at a time. A 6 point is a hexagon so you would not be able to use just 4 points of the polygon. An eight point is two four points, so there are 2 sets of 4 sides that'll match up to a square.

I just put a fairly worn 5/8 12 point socket on that plug, and it fits very well. A new socket wont fit.

13-16 socket weld up 4 points works fine and no trip to town( I live in the boonies)!!!

About 8 years ago I was lucky enough to find a set of square sockets at a high performance swap meet really cheap too. They were Chraftsman too. Good enough for the home shop but I would not use that line for making a living.. You can find mild to blown wild engines and machines there. Sellers and buyers come from many miles to the Hi po long beach veterans stadium swap. Its amazing whats found there..

They are not an every day use socket, but when you need to put an elbow fitting way back in you can use an extension to get to it.

I have a Cornwell set and thank myself for it every time I use one
