I'm having an unusual shutter when I take off in my crew cab. I installed a South Bend Clutch back in Julyish and this "shutter" has developed over time. It is not getting worse, but it is really annoying because my truck will hop anytime I take off from a stop. I've been giving it a little throttle and riding the clutch and that seems to help a bit :dunno and it gets a little better when warm but not much. Clutch feel is great and it doesn't slip or anything like that--overall I love the clutch except for this one issue. Any ideas? Thanks!

Does ut do ut worse in 2nd? My clutch has always done that, shutter real bad taking off, even worse in second, but gets better with more throttle. I think oil is getting on the flywheel to be honest, leaking from tge CDR tube up top.

You have either a warped clutch face or contamination in your mating surfaces.

You can spray brake cleaner up in there, rotate the thing enough to get it on the whole clutch surface , while someone is holding the pedal down . If the chatter temporarily goes away, oil contamination, if not, bum clutch

Not exactly. If it has been doing it for three months, there may be HUGE hot spots from the slipping. If that is the case, the brake kleen will not show the problem. More than likely, it is a problem with the oil, BUT, did you get a super sticky clutch when you ordered it? If so, that is the reason. I had mine for my gasser specifically built for a "step under a button clutch" and it is a sticky *******. If that is the case, it may not have a lot of slip.

This is the clutch I bought: http://southbendclutch.com/1944325.html

Anyway I know I have not abused it in any way and I have not pulled a big load with it yet so I'm starting to think there is oil or something on it :dunno

Feramics can be chattery, especially if you have a tall rear end, but I would suspect it would have shown up fairly quickly after installation if that were the case, more likely contamination or damage. If you've slipped that thing a lot, you can count on it that it's removed some material from that flywheel already and if wheeling you could very well have warped something. Anytime you are creating enough friction to dig a flywheel, you are generating some serious heat.

to view things from a different perspective....
check the rear mounts of the Zf5. The two bolts if loose can create a condition like that. Also those ears are prone to breaking off.

My t19 just started to do the same thing every morning but only in the mornings and in first starting off and goes away after a few miles. Its been 6 months since I replaced my clutch and it just started a few weeks ago.

Did anyone find a reason why?

Yours sounds like it is getting wet about the time you shut it down. Then it starts to rust. Not really common since the p-plate should be in contact and sammiching it together. I bet you have hot spots too, but they are not that big. Is yours ceramic?

I just have the 375hp and less clutch so I don't think it is organic, feramic or ceramic. It looks exactly like the one in the pic http://southbendclutch.com/1944325.html

Older thread, but I still have the problem. I have noticed that when there is a decent load 3500lbs or more on the back it doesn't act up :dunno Unloaded I now have to either dump it or feather it and its funny as hell watching my wife drive--Hey it'll either wear in or wear out right?! (complete sarcazm :rotflmao :puke::rolleyes:).

To be honest at this point I think I need to pull it out and see whats going on but I lost my ambition and can't find it LOL

Mine is the LUK from pep boys so Im guessing its not ceramic. And mine only happens in the morning. I can drive it in the morning and park it and drive it at the end of the day and not have that problem.

Also Rot Box you have a ZF-5 and I have a T-19. Different tranmission but same problem. I've been wondering if my slave cylinder or master cylinders are going bad. I really need to fix this problem. If you or anyone finds a solution let me know. I'll do the same.
