I just received my injectors and return kit from Russ yesterday. Should I replace them now or wait till I have all the timing tools? Will it most likely run worse with the new injectors since timing will be off?
should I wait on replacing my injectors till I have the timing tools?

I say replace them now. I seriously doubt enough will change (if anything at all, really) for you to need to time it before you can drive it again.

Wel it difficult to know what condition your old injecters are in now plus if you replace them now you wont know what the timing was before. But I do strongly suggest you replace them now and time it after. There will be no harm done installing and running the engine. What condition is the injecter pump in like how many miles are on it. I'm sure Russ would have asked that too. He knows his stuff. Contact me later about renting a timing meter from me by pm's.

The pump is original as far as I can tell 230k but the truck runs like a top. I'm not going to replace it yet. I know I would have to adjust my VW's by ear sometimes when I replaced injectors but not the pump when the dial indicator method didn't work due to pump wear. Usually a small adjustment granted.

Not sure but if you have 230K and the truck runs so good why on earth you would want to replace the injectors and not the pump too? With that kind of mileage and time on it, U best be doing a full fuel system service...
In for a penny in for a lb on these trucks....don't be doing things half way and then be stranded...

Oh and check the time of it now and then retime with yer injectors and IP are replaced...together or separately.

What makes you feel the pump is original. Usually the color tell us that and many times the grey paint and the lined up timing marks from the factory are confirmation of an oem installed pump.

When I replaced my injectors my truck smoked like a grandma at the bingo hall. I had to mess with the timing to get it to go away.

So you fiddled with the timing to fix the smoke.. I hope you used a meter. Otherwise you may have done some later on issues to the glow plugs if you advanced it too far. Please time your engine. Beg. Borrow or steal a meter but time the engine for best hp and mileage. With 230,000 miles on the original pump you have gotten literally twice the mileage out of that pump. Who knows how much more you have in it. Not trying to scare you but realistically you might be thinking about a replacement pump. Before you buy any ebay pump please ask here first. Many members have tried to save a buc on the cheapest pumps only to end up having to buy another one because what they got from echepo was crap. One poor member went thru 4 friggen pump from Pensacola and still was not happy. They screwed him over but good. His experiances have turned away many members now. I have a Pensacola pump on my truck now that about 6 years old. Its working fine and its not a painted pump. I did have a plunger seal leak but got that replaced for free at a fine shop near me. I wanted to buy the seal but they told me it was a seal that had to be installed to a special depth with a special driver. So they did it and no labor or seal charge. I will deal with them anytime.

Yeah, I know it's on borrowed time but I'll run it till my wife gets over all the money I just spent on new tires injectors and front end rebuild, 
. Hopefully this winter I'll get around to it. I already have a member in mind here that I know is a good seller. It's good to pass on bad experiences with venders we save each other alot of grief. I'll probably get in contact with you here in the next couple of weeks if I can't find a good deal on a used timing meter.

Thanks for the info, I went and picked up a 1" deep socket from napa, just need to get the brush to clean the injector seat.

Texcl. Send me a pm if you find any timing meter and I will give you my advice on it. I have seen lots of meters on ebay over the years that were not complete but the sellers will stretch the truth about that. Some have said. "This meter works when powered up but no way to test it." WEll all they are telling you is the meter digital diaplay lites up but that means nothing. Some say they are complete. You get what you see in the pics.. But missing parts to actually use the meter are not pictured. Ebay sellers have all kinds of buzz terms to sell something thats not complete or not working. Even some injection pump rebuilders sell on ebay telling you the pump is a new rebuilt pump. Sorry but new is new and rebuilt is just that. Proper grammer is recient rebuild but who does that.

Great I appreciate that, not a whole lot out there for now, so will probably have to rent from you. You supply all the wrenches too correct? I really want my own since we are planning on buying an early 90's (hopefully a 93) cc to build into a nice fifth wheel hauler. I love working on this truck it is so much easier to work on than any of my other vehicles. Reminds me of the old 65 fast back mustang my brother and I restored.
