Has anyone on here done a Saginaw pump conversion? If so I want badly to slap one on my truck as eventually it will be hydro-boosted and 4wd. It is currently 2wd with the normal pump, I just want to know what to buy/mod to make it work.

My '87 IDI had a Saginaw pump and I loved it, only Ford i've owned that didn't have a whine in the power steering... LOL

IIRC it had a different mounting bracket, specific to the Sagniaw/IDI. Never took it off so I can't be sure.

Wish I had more for you... Sorry. I would do this myself if I can find all the brackets/hoses.

I did the Saginaw mod and hydroboost conversion. I used the bracket off of a van (not diesel specific) and the power steering pump off of a 1979 Lincoln Continental. I also used the power steering hoses of the Lincoln. It works very well!

You have a year and motor from the van? Do all 79 continentals have saginaws? Do you know what motor the continental had in it? I'm assuming what you did just bolted up?

The van was actually a small block gasser, but the brackets bolted right up. I am not sure all 1979s have the saginaw, but I just checked rockauto to compare the photos with the applications. I believe the engine was a 460. It all was a bolt up gig.

My 1991 E350 has the Saginaw pump. I had to replace it one time and thought it would not be a hard job. Boy was I wrong. The only time those pumps will whine is when they are low on fluid.
