replaced clogged backpressure tube, now it won't start

I did the math and estimated my 96 psd was getting about 10mpg. So I searched the forum and decided I needed to clean ebps. It looked like crap so I just ordered a new one. I cleaned the fittings on each end and the sensor looked ok. I installed the big napa airfilter too, including relocating the temp sensor. Now it won't start. It cranks normally, and sputters/coughs like it needs fuel.
this is the first time I parked the truck while pulling from the rear tank so I thought maybe it leaked down like the idi's like to do. So I cranked several times but there's no change. I get some white smoke while cranking but not a lot. it turns black if I push the throttle while cranking.
I tried to see if my obdlink would help and I got no where with it.

I double checked for loose wires in case I bumped something while working, but it all looks ok.
got any ideas?

Did you replace the epb sensor?
Try unplugging it.

I'll try unplugging, i just reused the same one since it ran ok other than mpg

Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything else.
Check the filter bowl and Schrader for fuel.

unplugged it, still the same.
I already checked the valve, a bit of fuel came out when I pushed it real quick.

f- these f-ing computers. this is why i should have stuck with idi.
my gut says no fuel, that's how it's acting. will the scanner tell me there's no fuel pressure?
the batteries are charging up so I can mess with it in morning

I'll dig through the scrap pile, maybe I'll rig up a test gauge

any reason I why I shouldn't go old school, get the wife to crank it so I can spray carb cleaner in the intake. if it runs I'll know it needs fuel plus I can nurse it long enough to prime itself.

you can take the fuel filter out and see if the fuel bowl fills while cranking

sounds to me that something got loose while working on sensor if the truck all of sudden doesn't start.

I double checked everything, still no go. I had a cps in my glovebox that I meant to get to someday so today became someday and now it runs again.

there's no way I hit it while changing the ebp tube, I guess it just decided it was a good day to quit. or the fuel did leak down on the rear tank and it finally primed, but I think i'll blame cps.
