Radiator addictive?

So I just got my truck 2 weeks ago and my knees busted right now so I had dealership do oil change and multi point inspection. They found radiator was needing topped off so they added more fluid.

My question is should I add a addictive without knowing if they did?

I don't know what kind of additive they put in at the factory, but my engine is addicted to it too!

I think they do it just to make money.

If you want to check the additive protection with test strips you've got to know which additive is in there.

You've got to call the dealership and ask two questions: 1) Did you put some additive in the radiator when you topped it off? 2) If so, what additive did you put in?

Mine has so many different anti-freezes and additives in it... Frankenwrench might want to patent it. AntiFrankenFreeze!

Well I went back to dealership, service guy said you don't add additives to the coolant, I then proceeded to tell him that it was to prevent cavitation in diesel, he then said thats included in the coolant flush.
It's a Ford quick lane that uses only motorcraft stuff.... anyway to test if anything was added?

what color is your antifreeze currently? did they top it off with the same color? or did they flush out all the old and put in new?

I was told originally that they noticed it was low then added some more to it (went in for oil change and multi point inspection). Then when I came back later to check about the additive the service manager (same guy as before) said it was flushed and replaced.
The coolant color is green and very full.

I should ls also note the worksheet doesn't show what was actually done for the day just it cost 250$ and I think 150 in parts. Air filter replaced, oil/oil filter changed (fl-1995), coolant and wiper blades and fluids would be all motorcraft branded fluids as it was a Ford dealership.

Well, it being green is a good sign, but still without knowing exactly what they put in its hard to tell you exactly what to do. If they put in low silicate antifreeze then you’re good, just add ford SCA, VC-8. If they put in normal high silicate antifreeze and you add SCA then it will precipitate crap into your system and potentially clog your radiator.

Its also possible they put in some stuff that already has SCAs premixed in which case that would be good too.

You should buy those test strips and see what it says. It’s the only way to know what is going on.

I’m betting, as most people (even ford) don’t know what their doing with IDIs, that they put in some normal high silicate junk.

Thank you, I'll get one of the test kits, it has to be the motorcraft green fluids so it shouldn't be be bad.... hopefully.
