I'm about to try removing my glowplugs and twist in 8 new Beru's. I'm going to follow the procedure to put each cylinder at TDC first, though, in case anything breaks off. I'm just wanting to make sure, which cylinder is #1? I would assume that it goes like this:

front bumper of truck
1........2
3........4
5........6
7........8

Meaning the front drivers side cylinder is #1, front pass cylinder is #2, and so on, right? I was also messing around yesterday, trying to rotate the engine, and man its gonna be tough. Do you all just put a breaker bar on the crank and pull? I didn't have a full size breaker bar but it seemed like it would take an awful lot to turn that thing past the compression strokes.

you're being over cautious if you haven't been running cocktail fuels.
seriously tho, you'll know if one is fighting you. if it spins out easy, no worries. If you have to put some effort into it, then consider doing your TDC thing. but here's the problem.....should one break off, the next step if pulling the head....you ready for that? for me if one gives me a little trouble, I would stop and move on to the next. if there are more than two troublesome GP's, it's time to reconsider your options. two or less, screw them back in and leave them alone. you won't be getting full use of your GP's but you won't be stranded either.

Think the front passenger side cylinder is #1. If you look on the intake manifold some of the cylinder number are marked on it.

Indeed the intake manifold is stamped with the cylinder numbers. The firing order is even on there too. I ended up just twisting them out and all eight came out no problem. All were Berus too, three were bad, but I replaced them all anyway. The two days of pb blaster probably helped, and the new ones went in with antiseize. My glowplug controller now glows them much longer, close to ten seconds, which is good. But I'm turning it manual anyway. Just for kicks I hooked up the bad plugs and one good one to the battery charger. The two that were open of course didn't glow at all, the third which read something like 7 ohms did glow though. Then I hit the good one, and it glowed bright for about 45 seconds, and then I could tell it failed. Good news though is it didn't deform in any way.
