Hey all, Will a zf from an IDI fit a 7.3 powerstroke?

OBS PSD, but not a 99-up PSD.

Yes, but the clutch hydraulics are different...the PSD's clutch slave cylinder's inside the bellhousing, while the IDI's is external.
Also, the IDI tranny isn't quite as strong...designed to handle 420 ft-lbs of torque, compared to the 470 ft-lbs that the PSD tranny can handle.
I imagine it'd be okay behind a stock PSD, though...

Also on the newer 2wd ZF trannies there is no provision for the speedo cable in the tailshaft housing....... Don't ask me how I learned that one the hard way.

Were the '92-'94 IDI trannies built this way, or did they plug the hole in the tailshaft housing?

I don't know exactly when they changed the housing. Towcat might be able to shed some light on this.
I just found out the hard way when I broke mine last year, neither I or the parts man noticed it until I got home and had the wrong one. It was even shorter than the one on my '90 and then had to swap it for the right one.
Just throwing the info out here so people know to look out for it before buying.
