I was curious what the symptoms are across the RPM band for:

1 ) timing far too advanced
2 ) timing far too retarded

I'm looking for the extremes of the spectrum, so think "running, but barely..." in either case.

This is just something I've been wondering about.

Thanks!

ive ran mine really retarded.
symptoms, great fuel economy.
it still ran good, but it was down on power.
at -9 degrees it did take a bit to start in the cold cold mornings of 45 degrees.

too advanced you can start hurting your pistons.

im ay 9 degrees advanced now, and she runs great.
she does suck the fuel tho.
but im running a 105 cc IP, and mister injectors.

Running really retarded timing much of the heat from combustion is directed into the exhaust and that hurts valves. Lots of advance is going to buck the rotation of the piston thru top dead center. The engine wont rev easily. Most here like around 9.0 advance. Our fuel these days is not what it was years ago so more advance helps the burn.
