The window in our 96 F250 would not go up yesterday. Today I removed the door panel and pushed the button. I could hear the motor trying to work. I then smacked it with a body hammer and it started working again fine. I removed the motor and hooked it to a battery and it sounds good and works. Normally I would just replace it to be safe. However, we are under a serious budget restraint at the moment. I would prefer to find a reasonable alternative. Is there something I can do to “freshen” up this motor? If I lube the regulator real well would it make a difference? This is the first window motor I have worked on in years. SO I may need some reminding about a few things.

There are plastic bushings in the motor that break after awhilem they are there so that the motor stops turning if someone puts their arm out the window when rolling it up. Pull the motor out and take it apart and replace the nylon bushings with the appropriate sized nuts.
