Question with a video. CDR related.

After trying to start my truck 3 times in 50* weather, I finally fixed my leaky o-rings with my new viton rings. I also discovered 2 bad GP's. I went to start the truck to check for leaks and noticed my CDR blows a lot of smoke. It does have oil getting through as well. I cleaned it out 2 months ago but there was a small puddle in the coupler boot and some dribbled out of the hose as well. Is this much smoke/oil normal, or do I need to get a new CDR?

I see nothing to worry about in the video. As for oil being found in the vent hose, thats to be expected. No diesel on earth will have a perfectly clean crank case vent because blowby is such a fact of life with them. IDIs also have higher compression than newer TDI diesels making blowby even worse.

My engine is not even fully broken in and it has a similar amount of vapor comming out. However, my oil consumption has dropped off a cliff and My best guess is that it uses about 1/2 a liter between 6000 mile oil changes (if that).

The CDR and vent hose always have some oil deposited in them in mine as well. Its just the nature of the beast.

Sorry to hear about the viton O rings. You are not the only one to mention problems with them. I had such hopes that they would be more reliable than the rubber compound seals, but perhaps not.

I just installed the viton rings for the first time tonight, not sure how they will do yet. The leaky rings were the regular rubber ones. I had fuel leaking from 2 caps, so hopefully the viton rings fixed it. The puddle in my driveway is embarrassing and I'm hoping my mpg will improve a little as well. The new(clean) air filter I get tomorrow may also help.

Thanks for the info on the CDR, this was the first time I had run the truck with the hose off and it caught me by surprise.

I need to stop skimming over posts. Re read your original and you do point out that the vitons are the new ones.

The blowby doesn't look as bad if you simply pop the filler cap off while the engine is running, but if you have the cap on and take the vent hose off, it looks more dramatic because the outlet of the vent is smaller. This makes it shoot out faster and lookes worse than it really is.

I have popped the filler cap with the motor running, so that all makes sense, thanks.
