I'm wondering if the port on top , to the right ( the one that's usually plugged ) is an inlet or outlet? My truck has a hose running from it to the side of the block , near the starter. I'm installing a coolant filter and figured I might as well just use that hose since it currently has no purpose. Also , I'm guessing someone had an off day when packing my new lift pump. It came with 4 gaskets...lol

If I remember correctly that is an inlet port as it's on the inlet side of the impeller. I had a ambulance motor once that used that port and one from the front of the head for the rear heater.

Maybe someone was attempting to do some extra cooling?

Thanks Frank! It was ran through what I believe to be a coolant heater. But I didn't know which way it was flowing. The heater was plugged solid so I just eliminated it and ran a long loop between the two intending on using it for the filter later . Now I'm finally getting around to it. Lol
