Question about doors...

How hard is it to swap in power windows and locks into a truck that doesnt have them?

It turns out that while i was working on my rear brakes tonight my son who will be 3 in dec. decided to climb on a boat frame i got leaning up against my garage and knock it over right into my drivers door. lucky he wasnt hurt....god knows i want to strangle the little...well....

i didnt...just made him sit till i was done but now i got two huge gooners right by the outside handle that are not an easy fix. my pass door also has a decent amount of rust on the outside bottom skin so i might as well look for other doors...and figured it since ill be looking for other doors i may as well look for power windows and locks..

might be easier getting doors with them already, iirc the wires for them are already there but i could be confused with something else

otherwise door locks are an easy add, not sure on the windows. you can buy a kit that doesnt add any buttons

I agree it would be ALOT easier to just swap out the doors. Were not saying it cant be done, because it can be and has been.

not terribly hard. I still have all the stuff in the '87 that can be pulled.
glass is the same. regulator is different. wiring is plug-n-play.

So would i have to get an 80-86 door for my 86 to be plug-n-play or can i get any power door?

80-86 electrical window switches are the least reliable for our trucks.
if you are going to go through the grief to put it in, get the entire setup for the 87-91 trucks.

im going to have to swap the doors...are the plugs for the doors and windows already under the dash or is it something i would have to wire myself?


i figured i would end up with doors with the power stuff already in them

you will have to run wires. nice part is they are an add-on item that doesn't bother the main harness at all.

you had better pull the dash on the truck also---as it aint plug and play!!!!!!! been there!!! theres a harness--that crosses from the left of the truck to the right--just under the dash--to the front of the dash,,,diesel or gas!!!! and the plugs to connect it are on that harness..i went from manual windows,,and no door locks ,,,,to both..so i know what im telling you is accurate,,,,,and it aint super hard to pull a dash--time,yes...hard,no.....and it you dont pull the dash--youll play fun trying to get the left front part of the door harness wiring out----

how bad would it be to put 92-96 doors on an 87-91 truck?

i realize the shell is the same but will the door panels line up to the dash at all or will it just look like crap?
