Quick question, I have an 1990 f350 7.3 idi. My pyro temp hasn’t even ever gone over 550 degrees. Think the sensor is bad?

Yes I’d say so. On flat level ground at 60mph I run about that. Start towing or pulling hills it climbs pretty fast. Unless your fuel it turned waaay down.

Properly fueled, flat level driving, good rule of thumb, add a zero on to your MPH. Hills & towing are / can be much higher.

Where's the thermocouple?
But yes that's low. .

Thermocouple is right at the turbo. Also, I’m getting a decent amount of black smoke until the turbo spools, that may be normal.

You want it as close to the head as you can get it. You'll easily lose 200-300 degrees between the manifolds to turbo outlet.
