Pre/post 88.5 monobeam 60 axle shaft lengths?

Are the housings different widths? Or something else going on?

I see listings for axle shafts 15.965"/16.17" short side, and 36.68"/36.97" long side.

I know that factory '95 shafts have a major chamfer on the spline end. Also, the outer stub axles have no clip groove. I have wondered if it has to do with how the "end play" of the complete shaft is controlled in the overall assembly.

Any ideas?

I'm not quite sure where the difference is, but yes the 86/87 axles are different lengths than the 88 up
