Power Window Question

OK, this is not for a truck, it is for my P71, but they all have the same setup......

I have a 00 P71 Crown Vic, and one of the power windows will not roll up and down with the motor. If I hit the switch, I can hear the motor run, and make a clicking noise. I think I know what the problem is.... I think it the little nylon "nubs" that tie the 2 parts of the gear together. I know the "nut" trick, but I have kids, so I don't want to remove the "safety" from the window.

What are these little "nubs" called, and where can I get replacements..........

I managed to find the nubs only. It was alleged the gear is usually good, and mine was. The nubs which lock everthing together break down and then resemble rock salt. Cost was $8 and it fixed my window motor up nicely. I did have to grind them down, they were a hair too tall.

Search eBay for window motor rollers delrin.

Pics of this Vic...? If its not the rollers and I hope it is...its the cable...done a lot of those at ford. The crowns also has rivets you have to drill out and can be fun....

Napa stocks the nubs. Replaced them in all four of my windows and the drivers twice. They're usually on one of their 'spinning shelves' down here; just ask. That said, it could very well also be the regulator. Replaced all four of those too... Mine is my daily driver. When the regulator went, it exhibited your symptoms. When the nubs went, it would kinda 'skip and hop' on the way up.

It should still roll down if it is just those pieces, least mine always did. I'd bet on regulator. I would personally also replace the so-called nubs too while I had the motor and regulator out.

Whitehorse is dead on about the rivets two up top and two where the window is attached to the regulator. Can replace with bolts or rivets (most regulators come with the rivets) but the rivets are a larger size than the little tools you commonly find can handle. Be careful drilling out the window part, there are two pieces that are metal and plastic between the window and rivet. They shouldn't come off the window. Mess it up and that's a ford only part

That same round gear thing that strips is also used in the electric step on my boss' motorhome. Made me look like a hero when the step manufacturer said no parts available and a new step was $800

Take the motor regulator out and remove the cover of the gears , Clean it real well as you will see dry grease inside . Go to hardware store and get your self (3 )1/4" nuts , Add 3 nuts per motor that will allow it to to lock when you push the power up and down . It's one of the oldest tricks . Save your self tons a $$'s . i Done that to my green machine as both window regulators were shot and saved my self $90

I actually know the nut trick, but I have younger children, and do not want to remove the safety the little nylon plugs provide. The few bucks for the plugs it cheaper than a trip to the emergency room....... If they were all older, I would just do the nut trick......

You can cut up a hot glue stick to make these "nubs" also.

I like the hot glue stick idea. A clutch may be a PITA but it's cheaper than a regulator, and safer for kids too.
