Well I'm not very knowledgeable on on this topic either but as far as I know the d60 will be a straight axle with either kingpin or ball joints and came on fords f350 '4x4 '.

The first and the third trucks you posted are both 2WD therefore they don't have a Dana 60. The second one doesn't say if it's 4WD or not so who knows. The transmission on the first one is on a 351 motor so the bellhousing wouldn't bolt up to a diesel. You will have to find a transmission out of a 6.9 or a 7.3 for it to work. The transmission on the third truck would work on yours as long as your truck is 2WD. If your truck is 4WD you would have to change the tailshaft on the transmission.

So i need a 4x4 F350 with a diesel to get the right trans and axle. I thought a ZF from behind a 460 would alos work.

the 460 zf will work, if you drill out the bellhousing bolts to fit. i have personlly done this. also you can use either a 2wd or 4wd tranny for a 4wd trk but, if you use a 2wd tranny you will have to use a divorced mount transfer case. also if you find a 460 zf tranny (4wd)i will trade you a diesel zf (4wd) for it.

you want to stop looking at duallies for D60's.you'll have much better luck searching the SRW trucks (4wd's only.)
9 times out of 10,if the truck is not listed as 4wd in ads, then its not.they are worth more than 2wds,and thus the importance of listing that info in the ad,when asking more $ to its comparable 2wd truck.
look for the axle and hubs in pics.

your TTB no good?
generally the reason people want to switch to the D60's with f250's is for working the front end(plows etc) or lifting the truck, hard off roading etc.
if your TTB just goes along for the ride, and is simply used for more traction (4wd use) then it's pointless to put in the stiffer riding d60.
just because people say they are better, doesn't mean everyone actually has a use for one.
you should plan out the mod carefully, because if you don't off road/lifts,large tires, mudding, plow, etc.it could be a large waste of $.

TTB's don't eat tires either for the record (if simply used just for traction,4wd/street use.)
people neglecting to maintain the front end and keep them properly aligned will eat tires though.
years of first hand experience.

F250HDXLT makes a good point. Unless you're planning on lifting your truck and doing some serious off-roading or snowplowing, your D50 will suffice.

I thought about doing a D60 swap in my truck but I realized that for the most part, it's a pavement princess. The times I do go off-road aren't often or extreme enough to warrant the time and expense of doing the conversion.

However, if you're dead set on a D60 swap, here's more info on Dana 60s than you ever wanted to know:

As far as a ZF-5 that will bolt right up, a ZF out of an '88 to '94 4X4 IDI-powered F250 or F350 would be your best bet (read: least amount of work). You can get a 2WD tranny to work, but that will require running a divorced transfer case and having a custom front driveshaft made.

You can also use a 5 speed from any diesel F-superduty. It is a 4wd housing w a drive line e-brake on it. All you would need to do is take the e-brake off and bolt your t-case on.

Also. dont limit your searchs to just an IDI. A powerstroke 5 speed will bolt on too and has a lower 1st and reverse The the earlier zf5s

Personally, regarding the D60 swap, I think it's worth every penny!!

I had the D50 in my truck, and it did just fine for snowy roads and puching a plow....HOWEVER, I didn't realize what I was missing out on when I dropped the 60 under her....it drove like a whole other truck..and for the better!
