well if he's back on the road again,he may not be such an idiot.:D now if he put that turbo crank in an n/a block.....well.i still might not call him an idiot but lets just say,the less educated are gunna be schooled when their n/a engine shakes apart.:D

Same crank. Balancer and flywheel make up for the weight difference

actually i think the whole rotating assembly is much different Russ.here's some cool pics showing the difference between the'93/'94 turbo crank and the n/a crank.
turbo crank is on the right.

but i suppose it stands to reason there would be a difference, otherwise there wouldn't need to be a reason for different balance at the balancer and flywheel/flexplate.

The difference bewteen any idi crank is the balance. The 6.9 crank fits the 7.3 & the 7.3 turbo engine. they use the same bearings too but.. the turbo rods are a different wrist pin size. Otherwise they are a direct bolt in item. I "made" a non turbo engine a turbo engine by using turbo rods and balancing ALL the rotating parts. Flywheel included. You hear my engine run but you wont feel it.. Unless an injector fires oddly. Its a smooth as.....:angel::angel::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::sly

Between the two cranks, looks like the castings are totally different on the counter balances. the NA crank is drilled on the perifial (sp) of the counter balance, where as the turbo is drilled on the side and the throw. The turbo has a smaller counter balance. That must mean the turbo rods and pistons are different in weight and the damper and flywheel for the turbo is different from the NA.

It could be the turbo crank is a forged crank, where as the NA is a Cast or Nodular crank. There is a great difference in weight of the iron used between the two. I do know that many years ago that the 460 engine used a Nodular crank, the 427 and 429 used a forged crank from Ohio Crankshaft.

Ill have to look as ive got 2 of each. I do know different runs can make them different. Good pics

No changes noted in the ford info release of turbo engine.
Also the article I got from Engine Builder mag states they are one part number for all IDI. I wish I could post that article here somewhere. Its pretty good.

You after turbo rods Al?

Nope but turbo pistons would be good....

Complete turbo core here...could transplant crank n rods in my sleeved stock bore reman....n bore it...or hope cyl ok in turbo block but seeing it doesnt turn over I bet rusted out...need sleeve it too...

So bore the sleeved one makes more sense run bigger rod pin n turbo pistons...

I may see what those rods be worth and cam..

That is the best information about our engines. I have read one that gives a little more info on the block serial numbers and what they mean. I recall something about the 7.3 started at 500,079 and went up to 1,116,330. then the turbo engine started at 1,116,331. Can't recall any of the 6.9 numbers but do know the early blocks were not wanted because of the heater cracking issues. But Mel has an 83 and no cracking issues. I purchased it new also and has owned it longer than anyone on this forum has owned their rigs.:thumbsup::thumbsup:
