He told us he has done this procedure before and I told him about the article, but you are right should of printed it out and given it too him.
He had it for two months trying to get it right and we just had enough and took it back. I called Billy and now we are making progress.
But when we or I will install another pump I will definetly follow thoes instructions, dont want to deal with this again !
Going to try the atf and see if that does anything today.

I COMPLETELY AGREE with what Mel has posted. No matter what the pump has to go back and the gear cover has to come off to check for the proper gear alignment. Sadly I'm thinking the truck is 180 degrees out of gear time. This happenes when someone that does not know what the gear timing marks look like doesn't match up the "Y" and the dot marks. The injection pump gear has a "Y" mark on it and the cam gear has a "Y" and a "dot" mark. The dot mark must be set to meet the dot on the crank gear. Not the injection pump gear. These marks are 180 degrees from each other. Both the cam and the injection pump gear are the same size and number of teeth. Best of luck and never let that fool mechanic touch the diesel again. Your due a complete refund for screwing up the engine thats for sure...

I'm trying not to have to tear it down if I don't have to lol. It runs smooth as silk when it running and revs up easily with no missing. The last few I've had that were 180 out ran like total crap.

But until its torn down again its hard to really know if its all aligned properly.

I dont think its too far out of time because it runs good and starts with slight difficulty. Ran atf through and I let it sit didnt help as far as I could tell.
But when I pulled the filter off and dumped it there was a good tsp worth of sediment is that excessive?The filter is roughly 2yrs old but the truck has
only ran several times since then. Still blows smoke.

Too check the pin all I have to do is open up the cover and remove #1 gp put some wire or something in there unplug the ip turn the engine by the crank pully till I find tdc and see if the pin is in the 4oclok position?
