I have read some good and bad posts about this places rebuilds. I need new injectors, pump and return lines and caps for my 94. I would love to buy from Mel or Russ but the price from Pensacola is so damn inexpensive. Will I regret this?

you get what you pay for. WE tried to time a pump from pensacola and it was a no go. Friggen thing was all over the place.. Get one from Russ or Mel or go to a local certified pump shop, but stay clear of places that sell rebuilt pumps for less than what it reasonably should cost to even tear one down before any parts are even put into it, that should tell you that no new parts are being put into the thing

I will tell you this Nobody on this site is making a killing on selling you any pump or injectors are return line kits. I have a pensacola pump and its working fine.... I also have a Moose pump and its so much better than anything available on the open market. I have had to turn down my moose pump. I'm the only person to do that. I can only think my motor doesn't require it because of all the internal work.... It just runs like a stripped ass ape when you get on it... Others have had nothing but trouble with several pumps from pensacola... Not me... Yet... Mels pumps are not expensive if you really look at what you are getting...

I just put a Pensacola pump on my truck a month ago and it's running great. We'll see how long it lasts. I bought it because they don't require a core exchange. So now, I have an extra core to either Moose or Baby Moose when I need another pump. For injectors, I'd go to Russ (Type4) on this site.

You DON'T want to know the headaches, time, aggravation I went through with their "rebuilt IP's"
Keep in mind > just because you pay Pensacola for a rebuilt IP doesn't mean that's where it's coming from
Think I went through 3 IP's dealing with them > one was dirty out of the box, the next was shipped from another rebuilder >crap, and the third came from Pensacola >crap again.
I sent Mel my OE IP and he rebuilt it and had it back in a few days...I gave name to the BABY MOOSE! And it's been great

i was wondering how long it was going to take for you to speak up, i remember reading all the crap you went through about that. you did go through hell
if it was me i would buy from mel due to the service aspect, price is one thing but service is worth its weight in gold. also how much money would you really save if you went through what HammerDown did?

Trust me, I originally didn't use Mel because of price, but a time factor. I think it was the snow season and my only other vehicle is my Corvette >forget that in even a dusting of snow > it SUCKS A$$!
Brother, dealing with 3 bad IP's was a nightmare...endless hours and weeks turning into months diagnosing problems only to find out it was in-fact their Rebuilds causing a bad running engine.
PCD's $300 eBay IP special was anything but a 'deal' for me...as far as I'm concerned I lost $$$$$ in my personal labor time alone.
Some may have got lucky with their stuff but for me > LESSON LEARNED!
PSC did did finall refund my $300...only because I kept a journal of pictures and detailed testing I did to prove the issues were directly related to their rebuilt IP and NO prior problems with my engine. Heck, my OE DB2 with 180,000+ idled smooth as silk while 2 of theirs would shake-up a case of beer beyond use.

Brother Mel was a God send , he did me a quick turn around on my original IP. He says it's 'only up to OE standards'...but > I believe there's a little Hot Rodding going on in my IP that it didn't have from the factory.

Thus the Baby Moose was named

AND > he even returns the bad parts, in my case the advance piston was a little wore.

I think the bottom line is that due to the complexity of an IP, you're best served to deal with a reputable local shop or someone from here that you absolutely trust. The nozzles may be a different matter, not really sure. I'd probably buy a set of those but as with HamerDown I would test each one.

I talked with a DB2 builder here about 5 miles from my home. We talked about the huge behind glass rebuild and calibration shop. It looked like an operating room. Clean and beutiful. He told me there isn't any "modified parts" to make our pumps any better than what they came like from the original factory but... He did tell me some rebuilders are using aftermarket parts that don't measure up to stock manafactureing specs. So these cheaper pumps are build with substandard parts... I have no reason to believe all of what he said. I know "thing" are changed in the Moose pumps. I wont say whats been done because thats between Mel and I. There is an honor code here. I understand I could send in a moose pump to be looked at to find out some of the secrets but thats being dishonest to Mel. I don't burn bridges here ever for any reason. The force is strong in this one. One day Calvin called me and asked if I was mad at him. My answer was no... Why do you ask this question... He told me he hadn't heard from me in a long time..... Thats friendship you don't get easily.... To most ebay sellers we are a buyer paying them for what they sell... Nothing more. To members here we are the end of the line for facts with our rigs and where to buy and where not to buy... Any dealership going to tell you that... For free....

Thats what I am doing right now. I don't have time for the truck to be down, I need the old pump out and a new pump in. I hope the IP from pensocola works out for me, at least until I can finish my turbo set up, and get a moose pump!

The jury is still out on my recent PCD IP. I installed it, ran the van for a 20 minute trip, and shut down.

Next day, won't start because all the injectors are locked up. Disassembled the injectors and found it was impossible to remove any of the needles. Took a lot of ultrasonic baths in diesel and MEK to free the needles.

I'm wondering if there was a preservative left in the pump that may have caused the problem. There is a clear, sticky residue inside the injectors that even MEK will not remove, and MEK is one of the strongest cleaners around.

Couldn't be happier with my moose pump from day one. Fired up and simply kept on running ever since. Low smoke at idle was noticed right away. Next was the insane amounts of fuel on tap (actually thinking of turning it down a little).

The most pleasant surprise was the fuel economy. Over all I can't say for sure that my peak for peak MPGs are any higher with the pump rebuilt, but what I can say is the higher numbers are much easier to hold on to.

Before the moose I could reach 20 MPG sometimes but other times it was down for no apperant reason and you could notice when the truck just couldn't perform as well. Now when I am able to make identical medium distance drives under identical conditions, the MPG results are almost identical from one day to the next (Often less than 0.5 MPG difference!). This is a huge improvement and it shows that a pump can deliver more fuel than you know what to do with but also deliver fuel economy at least as good as stock if you keep your foot out of it. Not sure I could have believed it if I hadn't seen it for myself.

Regarding cost, I will say it was a fair price and I definately got what I paid for.
