I talked with a DB2 builder here about 5 miles from my home. We talked about the huge behind glass rebuild and calibration shop. It looked like an operating room. Clean and beutiful. He told me there isn't any "modified parts" to make our pumps any better than what they came like from the original factory but... He did tell me some rebuilders are using aftermarket parts that don't measure up to stock manafactureing specs. So these cheaper pumps are build with substandard parts...I have no reason to believe all of what he said. I know "thing" are changed in the Moose pumps. I wont say whats been done because thats between Mel and I. There is an honor code here. I understand I could send in a moose pump to be looked at to find out some of the secrets but thats being dishonest to Mel. I don't burn bridges here ever for any reason. The force is strong in this one. One day Calvin called me and asked if I was mad at him. My answer was no... Why do you ask this question... He told me he hadn't heard from me in a long time..... Thats friendship you don't get easily....
To most ebay sellers we are a buyer paying them for what they sell... Nothing more. To members here we are the end of the line for facts with our rigs and where to buy and where not to buy... Any dealership going to tell you that... For free....
Gary I got almost the exact same story from a local Stanadyne guy. He seems really honest and straightforward. More specifically he said that the shaft seals really need to be Stanadyne parts. Most everything else in the aftermarket kit was just fine according to him. As far as the calibration, machine $$$$$ and the OR environment that probably sets real high quality builds like the Moose apart more than anything else. We all have learned the hard way that when you don't buy a pump like that, it may be right, i may not, but what's even more important is the quality of the person building the pump, will they stand behind their work and care that you have your IDI ready to use?
