hey all

ive got most of my bodywork done, or replaced and am getting ready to paint

i experimented with rattle can rustoleum gloss white and its not what im looking for (its not glossy and the coverage sucks)

1st ? what gives paint jobs the glossy look

2nd can i spray rustoleum with a hvlp gun, if i can what do i need to make it lok good ie thinner, hardner, etc

3rd if rustoleum is not a good idea what do you recommend

and how much paint do you think i will need , theres a lot of truck there...

im just trying to get some paint on this truck so it dont rust to hell , its not a show truck, just want it to look descent, so im not looking for 300$ a gallon paint. its mostly a farm , tractor hauling hay haulin truck.

could use your guys opinions thanks

The General Tao is Rustoleum.

Click.

Would i do it again? probably not. Its holding up REALLY well though. I've had two people brush the truck and the paint hasn't chipped or peeled.

Only reason why i did it was because it was rustoleum under it to begin with.

I shot it with a Harbor Freight gravity fed HVLP. Rustoleum thinned with acetone (or mineral spirits depending on the temperature and humidity) till it would drip about 3 a second off a paint stirring stick. It was about 70/30 but it was very warm out that day. I scuffed the entire truck, masked off the truck and shot it in one shot. took 3 quarts of paint to do everything except my tailgate which i have enough left over to do.

If cost is a concern. Look at Nason products. Its made by Dupont. Used it in the past for numerous "economy" paint jobs. Its a base/clear system with hardener. Go heavy on the clear for added protection. Its cheap. Cost me about 100 in material to paint a Chevy s10. Not including tape and paper of course. My truck, i wanted cheap as fark. I have about 30 dollars in paint and thinner in it. Its shiny and bright as hell though.

if I had it to do all over

for economy I would use epoxy type paint with clear over it, found it after I painted mine and it is stupid easy to spray, tougher than nails, and pretty nice looking when used with clear.

The link is on here. If you search for a thread titled I'm Orange, you'll see both sides.

My truck was origionally painted with this stuff.

The orange is Ace's version of Rustoleum, called rust stop. Its AC orange.

the black held up real well but i got tired of people hitting my truck. Had one lady tell me my truck blended in with the parking lot. So i did it orange.

That is all done with Candy red, flames are done with either silver or copper base coat with candy red overlays, About a 5000.00 paint job.

Nope, mine really is Rustoleum enamel. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone else, i told the OP to go with a base/clear though a single stage could work.

Did you atleast click on the link to see how it came out? it looks pretty darn good. Holding up well too. I had a lady brush against the side of my truck with her Mercedes and everything buffed out.
