My '90 doesnt want to get any warmer than 180 with this cold weather and sometimes sticks around 170-175. Even if I close off the grill it stays in that range. My '77 will run at 195 in these temps. I'm thinking my thermostat is sticking but wanted to check with you guys and see if anyone else has had this issue before I tear into it in the driveway with it being 10 degree out.

My motorhome, just cruising around 55-60mph in the middle of summer will run 185-190* on the highway in about 80-90* weather, and drop to 180 off the highway or whenever it doesn't have enough load on the engine.

And my empty cargo van would run around 190 in summer all the time no matter what kind of driving, and had trouble getting much over 180 when it started getting cold not long before storing it for winter.

Both of my machines have good cooling systems, and just a few year old thermostats. I'd say your fine as long as it does get at least over 170. How long do you drive it for?

Ive driven it 90 miles several times in the last week and it still wont get up to 190. The coolant is new and the fan clutch works perfectly so I know my cooling system is good as well. Sounds like yours is running similar temps though so maybe all is well with mine too.

Are you sure you have the proper diesel style thermostat in there? Just a thought. And I don't know if its an option for the IDI's, but my PSD had an option for a 190* or a 205*. I have the 205*, and really like it. The engine is much happier at the higher operating temperature.

Well, 02x72, you may want to check out another current thread: "Aftermarket Thermostat Users" -- running a "genuine" Ford or International stat in our IDIs is vital! Many older threads discuss this also...

Sticking? My first impression is YEP, but I'd suggest finding out what's in your thermostat hole ASAP, if you don't know. Wish I could lend you my driveway (only getting down to about 33º tonite)
