So my truck is using alot of oil. It doesnt smoke all that bad. No oil in coolant. not leaking anymore than usual. just sitting doesnt use any but driving, is another story. lol. Im using prob a gallon every 400 miles or so??
it seems to have started about 6-8 months ago. i had truck parked for prob 3 months, working on fuel system. when i got it done and went to start it turned over maybe half turn and stopped . so i figuered there was some surface rust in cylinder so i pulled all the injectors and put some atf in all of them and let sit over night. the next day it turned over but still slow at spots. but eventually got it running. but now uses oil badly. could i have broken a oil ring or something?? any ideas would be great. im planning on doing injectors and ip really soon. but i dont wanna dump alot of money in a motor has bigger issues.

Did the engine have the air cleaner on it... You may have gotten rain water in the intake. Sometimes the dash cowl seal leaks and rain water gets on top of the air filter housing. Then it leaks past the hold down bolt into the intake. That will rust up a cylinder and cause plenty of oil burn.... So you need to answer some questions as to why th oil issues are there... Now many miles are on the engine... Have you checked the cdr valve on the back of the intake manifold for a damaged diaphram... The oil issues could be a cdr or bad valve guides or bad rings on a cylinder or two from water getting in.... These starter can push a piston thru almost any problem in the cylinders. I don't think any rust would slow them down at all. Sometimes when water gets in the cranking is so fast and hard that it bends a rod before it stops turning over. Others will chime in with other oppinions...

If you let it sit , theres a real good chance that you just have a stuck ring or two. Very common. Get some Auto RX and run a couple of treatments and see what happens read teh instructions for diesels

Air cleaner was on. Had bed off working on fuel tanks. But I lived in florida, during the rainy season. With 100% humidity on most days. As best as I can tell truck has 168000 on it. Engine has some blow by but nothing I would call excessive. Haven't checked cdr , honestly don't know where it is our what it does lol.

Its the big tuna can right behind the intake. Its function is to take the blowby out of the crankcase and feed it back in to the intake to be burned again. its an emission thing.

Stuck ring, or try a different brand of oil.
My 6.9 used about 10 quarts of oil in 1500 miles(rotella)
i switched to valvoline and it uses NONE in 5,000 oil changes

Im running delvac in it, just cause that's what I can get from work. So can you unstick a ring ? Or should I plan on doing rings bearings and gaskets soon?

Try the autorx or hook to a really heavy trailer and get the motor nice and hot. Whaere about in florida are you?

I also use valvoline in my 6.9. It would eat a qt in less then 100 miles on rotella.

Guess I'm switching to valvoline on my next change.... how does the price compare to rotella? I can get rotella in a 2.5 gallon jug for $29.-- at walmart. (The only reason I even go in the parking lot of that wretched place...)

Also, is auto-rx only available through the website?

Auto Rx is only available through the website. they do that to make sure that folks read teh instructions. otherwise if they sold it in stores, nobody would follow directions and would screw up and not do it correctly and then run around saying it doesn't work. If that stuff doesn't take care of your oil consumption problem, then you have a SERIOUS mechanical problem, but don't consider it money wasted, because if you have to go into the engine, it will be spotless in there and you will have saved yourself hours of cleaning time on teardown.
