so ever since ive turbo'd my idi ive had a pretty decent oil leak ( 1 quart a week ) so every now and again when i get some time id try to track this leak and i always thought it was in the back on the top side where the new oil sending unit threaded into the block , but last night i finally got a good enough light back there to see that it looks like oil is coming from the front of the engine and trickling down the intake valley pan then leaking down the back of the engine .

now here's the tricky part, the oil leak seems to be somwhere around my ip , but my ip also leaks so i can't find out for sure where this is comin from . some time here very soon i plan on sending in my pump to mel for a full moose kit so i was thinkin on replacing all the intake gaskets while i got the ip off but if i could fix the problem before then that would be great . do any of you guys know of anywhere that i should look first on these beastly engines? :dunno

You leave way too many questions on the table. What turbo.... Did you poke holes thru the valley pan opening where the oil drains from the turbo to the intake valley pan. How many miles are on the injection pump. How do you know the pump is leaking. Try cleaning the valley pan and place a couple of paper towels under the pump. Drive it one day and remove the towels. See if they have any fuel on them. What you might be seeing running off the motor is only fuel mixing with dirt and oil. Where is the cdr valve hooked up to....

i made my turbo kit , its a side mount garret turbo and the oil drain goes directly into the valve cover. don't know how many miles are on the pump but im assuming its leaking because the pump is wet with diesel fuel from halfway down the pump to the bottom of the pump and if it sits for too long at night it will lose its prime and take a lot of cranking to start. didn't punch any holes in anything and the cdr is in the stock location and hasn't been messed with . i thought it might be fuel also and the motor is very dirty but i checked when it was leakin and it didn't smell like fuel at all , just oil.

CDR in the stock location with a turbo? Thats bad mojo, you're actually pressurizing the crankcase, it has to be plumbed into the intake side of the turbo if you are going to use it.

There you go, block off the stock opening in the intake and move the CDR to the intake side of the turbo and see if things clear up. It won't fix the IP leaking fuel, but it should take care of the oil.

Well this answers some of the questions... So the stock cdr was not moved so the holes needing poked thru the pan internals is not needed. Glad thats out of the way. If your pump is leaking its probably time to rebuild as you posted you want to do anyway. Usually the lever seal on the drivers side of the injection pump fails. Then it leaks down causing a hard restart. That where the paper towels will tell you the leak location. As fuel leaks into a dirty valley pan it picks up plenty od black oil and mud. Then it drains out the back of the pan onto the top of the bellhousing flange. Then down over the starter. This is a poor design but it works to clear the valley pan.... Just makes a big mess doing it. Try to tighten up the fuel line from the filter head. That connection has a square o-ring in it and they dry out over time... Any good pump shop will sell you those. They are called olives and you have three of them on the fuel lines. One on the suction at the filter and two on the discharge from the filter to the pump...

Banks has a part (# 42130) just for blocking off the CDR opening on the back of the intake. I have an extra valley pan rubber plug for the opening in the pan. New valley pans have a grommet for the CDR and a plug for no CDR applications.
