ok, So im thinking my dual mass flywheel is a more than likely whats causing my problem. Sometimes when shifting into 4th or 5th it wants to slightly grind if I slowly push the clutch and let out, but if I dump the clutch its fine. But it will kick out if I go down a hill and the cruise starts slowing me down. It also will do it on decel. It just started a few weeks ago. After my road trip and pulling a 23K trailer back up some pretty steep grades to. It also made some slight noise at idle I could hear under the truck. So am I safe to assume that maybe a spring in the flywheel has screwed up or what? Its got 204K on it now and not sure when it had a clutch last time.

I have not put a clutch in it since I bought it. It just sounds grindy and what not when it kicks out, even with the transmission in neutral it still sounds like its grinding into a gear. Im thinking ive got a broke spring on the fly wheel. I ordered a solid fly wheel from carquest a few mins ago. and they had the single mass clutch kit. I just have to send it out to have it built up over stock.

I don't think the dmf is the problem. Sounds like a synchronizer in the trans to me. :dunno

If its in neutral it still makes the noise. engine will rev up and what not and itll go away on the rev up but when it comes down it comes back but the tranny is still in neutral. if i try to shift and slowly let off the clutch on a gear shift it will do it really bad. if i put it in a gear and then just dump the clutch while driving it doesnt do it. I can feel like a clank, almost like a u joint when i decel and itll start making the noise. I know all the u joints are good so im not suspecting that. I have not had any issues out of the tranny at all even when i was towing the heavy load and then this noise just started.

Pull the inspection cover off the bottom of the tranny and try to rotate the flywheel but I wouldnt think that the popping out of gear would be the flywheel.

ok. so i pulled the clutch and what not out. The DMF has about 1 inch of movement or more. in either direction. The springs are also loose and can be spun in the flywheel. The throwout bearing also had alot of play in it as well. I have the SMF conversion and got it somewhat installed back. just having trouble splining up the input shaft

You did spline it up and center it with that little plastic clutch alignment tool didnt you? make sure the tranny is level a work it slow it sucks when that tranny falls and takes all your brand new parts and almost gets you in the process. I know I had it happen but luckily it was an old gasser. Anyone here ever benchpressed a c6?

Well i got it back in. After driving and getting it nice and hot the noise comes back. Im pretty sure its in the transmission. atleast the clutch being replaced got rid of my obnoxious rattle on shutdown.

Well it was not the transmission. it was the front pump in the transfer case or the shift fork. If i held pressure on the lever towards 2wd it would go away. let off and it would come right back.
