No more sidewinders?

I just read that banks is going to stop producing the sidewinder packages for our pickups after 07. I talked to a rep yesterday morning and he didnt mention anything about that. That kinda puts a damper on my plans because I was considering getting one of their kits for my new truck. My next option was hypermax which would save me some $$ but I didnt find on their site whether it was wastegated or not. Any help?

ATS no longer makes them either. They don't even support them anymore. Looks like before long Hypermax will be the only "new" supplier. I see a business oportunity for someone to buy up everything you can get your hands on and start a refurb business selling "NOS" turbo kits.

Unfortunately for those of us with older trucks, there's not much money in it for the manufacturers. The money is in the new truck market. Most aftermarket companies only go back one body style prior to the current one...then it becomes obsolete. Everyone with a '92-97 better grab up anything you need because you won't be able to find it in a year. Try finding a RanchHand style grill guard or bumper for a '91 F250. Gave up on that.

Our IDI engine parts are going the same route. There are several people looking for 7.3 head studs. Can't get them "easily" from Ken and no one else makes them. I suspect the 6.9 ARP studs are still around only by mistake. Now it appears new turbos will be going away someday too....Oh the frustration.

'Course that's part of the fun with these trucks too. Coming up with new ideas to share with everyone.

Eventually a man might have to make his own turbo kit. Many turbos will work, just a matter of getting the right specs....then plumbing it, getting the oil supply there, then an oil return..

Heck, just a stainless step/nerf bar for my 94 F350 CC was hard to find. Westin had a listing, but didn't have the bar. I found one, but it took some digging. I've got the same feeling as Tom - it will soon be tough to find everything needed to keep these trucks nice, and especially anywhere near stock.
But nothing worthwhile is easy, so I'll keep digging too.

actually,ATS still makes a kit for us.It just comes with a new style Aurora 2000 Turbo.Direct bolt in replacement for a factory turbo.

Just spend $2550.00 and have the Banks kit delivered to your door. If you don't have an automatic you will save around $200.00. It comes complete with everything you need. The Banks kit is complete with exhaust system, TransCommand control for the auto-tranny, Sidewinder turbo, pyro and boost gages, even Loctite, Permatex sealer, and teflon tape.

That's the problem, dropping $2500 for a soon to be obsolete system. ATS has had their kits suspended for a while, so I last heard, while they 'upgrade' their Aurora kits, and judging by their interest, knowledge, and support for their own past kits it won't be long before they drop their IDI turbo kits all together. Times are a-changin'- these IDI's aren't getting any younger or more plentiful, so its not surprising. If I were to buy a new turbo, it would be Hypermax. They are the only ones who seem to have acceptable customer service these days.

I talked to a Banks rep and had found out that this is the last year they will be offering a complete system (just parts soon). He also told me that the original quote of $2400 is now $3100 for my application. So, I searched it out for co.'s selling the kit and found a co. that had it in stock and was one state over. The best part was his advertised price was $2399.

So the rest is history. I'm very happy with the system and install was 10hrs on Sat. and 10 hrs on Sun including tuning of the pump and setting up the gauges. Drove it to work on Monday! Man what a difference. I don't think you'll ever hear someone not happy with a turbo.

The problem is dropping the 2700 I was quoted by their rep, I am a high school kid and was hoping to save up some money next summer and get it then.

don't get me wrong, the garrett unit is a good unit but it's not "top dog". the aroura(sp) is a ball bearing unit and that at minimum translates into faster spool ups There's a member here who does have one of those kits installed, but I haven't seen him post any feedback.
Now the back part. As of 5/07, ATS suspended sales of complete kits for the IDI. There is no word or confirmation of them resuming sales yet. What they tell tire kickers and acutual buyers are two different things, so anybody who has the $$$ to spend can make them tell the truth.
