New old IDI!

New to me IDI. Saw it on craigslist two weeks ago. Already took it on a 2000+ roadtrip to homer and back to retrieve a friends new utility trailer! Glad to have a diesel again!

Nice looking truck! I see you have the manual hubs on the front axle already. Have you noticed any thing that doesnt work quite right like door locks or power windows? What kind of fuel consumption did you get on your 2000 mile adventure? Can you post some pics of your interior?

Nice rig and fine looking family too. Hope this rig is all that and a bag of chips. These are very easy to work on and dependable trucks.

Thanks guys! The truck is great, so is the family. I will get some pics of the interior, it's in impressively good shape. I've replaced both front door upper pins, so now they shut without slamming or have to lift. The electric locks and power windows work perfectly. The rear windows are manual crank. The only think that has me a little up on edge is it sounds like the tc hums or buzzes a little before giving it throttle. The po had it puke out it's fluid last year and had a shop take it out and look at it. They replace the tc and said everything else was fine??? I dunno, need to look into it more. It seems to function well and hasn't done anything funny besides the humming...fluid smell fine, no od light flashing,...towed a 4 k trailer 1k miles with it last week on the way back from anchorage.
As far as mpg goes she averaged 16.8 across 1000 miles cruising up to anchorage( and down the kenai to homer and back to anchorage) going between 60-75. First tank I was following a friend who was flying and we were climbing from see level up to a little over 4000 ft ( most of the drive is between 2000-3000 elevation) and i got 14.3 the rest were in the 16 with one in the high 18 when we lost the elevation. In town I got in the mid 14's during the week in anchorage and got 13.3 towing 4k back down from anchorage to haines. Overall I'm pleased, it I kept it at 55 I bet I could be in the 17 and there's some routine maintenance to be done that may help as well. Oh, and the a/c was going most of the time!

mine came from fairbanks.ive seen others from ak.are these popular there? id think that a gasser would be a better option up there.easier to get started anyway.

There are a lot of them up north. Not as many in southeast, mostly because vehicles tend not to last as long here. Saw alot of early 90'2 fords running around up there and you see them on craigslist too.

Interior is in good shape! Rear drivers side lock doesn't cycle with the others is the only problem on the interior! As for mechanically the fuel system is getting on the tired side and needs to be replaced very soon. Starts are getting tougher and fuel economy is going down.
I've put 30,000 miles on the last 3.5 years and have replaced:
Tie rods-fun story there....it wasn't preemptive
Water pump
Glow plugs and bypass w mom switch
Front brakes and calipers
All fluids-obviously I hope
Added trans temp sens and guage
Transworld tugged kit
Repacked and torque [email protected] bearings
Resealed psp
Need to find a new leak in brake system and likely redo drum brakes.

Also alaska has started using a salt slurry in the winter since I purchased the truck and it is apprentice on my vehicles . Amazing how quick that eats stuff. Would like to take the bed off and clean some stuff up and prevent further deterioration.

Other than that toying with getting a turbo and new exhaust system after fuel system. Wish I'd kept the heads I had rebuilt and sidewinder off my old truck I sold when its motor ate it.
