Well I guess I cracked teh returen line from the top of the IP setting the TPS last night. Took her to the DMV this morning to get tags. Came out adn there is a puddle of fuel under the truck. , I poped the hood and noticed the line was cracked and leaking. I shortened the line and reinstalled it. Truck started then died. I replaced the line with a new line and cracked all the injectors after it would nto restart. No fuel from the injector lines. I did remove the return line form the fuel filter and wheil cranking it has fuel coming out of it.

What next? The truck is 20 miles away. Might have to get it towed home if I cant ge it to start. Please advise

Also the schrader valve on the filter?. Is it to purge air out of when the filter runs low

The schrader valve is to remove air manually from the filter anytime air gets in it. Your description of the broken line puzzles me some. I'm thinking the return line off the top of the injection pump is what your posting about. Make sure the fuel shutoff check valve on top of the pump is working.

How do I check the shutoff valve?

And yes I am talking abotu the return line from the top of the IP that is routed to the drivers side injector. Had fuel leaking down into the valley then down the back of the block over by the starter.

Situations like one is the reason I keep a can of starting fluid behind the seat. If you can get to an Autoparts store, get a can and use if carefully to get the truck running so it can bleed out the air. I'd be sure to bleed all the air out of the fuel filter 1st with the schraider valve. But, if you don't have an e-pump, you'll need help to do that.

Sorry man, it sucks to be in that situation, been there too many times myself. Hang in there. Just don't kill the batteries trying to get it started.

its home now. I got a friend with a F150 FX4 crew cab to guive me a tow. Oh did I mention he has a 5.4 with a supercharger on it? Wow that thing has some serious power.

Anyhow it back home now. Chargin the batts so I can bleed the system.

This experience did give me an idea. What would be wrong with a tee fitting befroe the mechanical pump, that went thru an electric fuel pump ( bypassing the mech pump then put a tee fitting on the inlet side of the fuuel filter with a ball valve. If this should happen again, Or you need to bleed air for filter chages. Just open the valve adn turn the pump on, It would fill the filter adn pressureze fuel to the inlet of the IP.

Anyone ever doen soemthing like this to a 7.3 or 6.9? In my head is sounds like a no brainer and I wonder why there isnt a kit available.

I may be missing something though.

gunz,

I believe MIDNIGHT RIDER has done something very similar to that. He should be along shortly to chime in.....

When my return line to from my IP cracked today i bought 20 foot of gates hose. i am going to replace all the brittle return lines. Tomorrow i will be surfing around the hardware stores for fittings adn ball valves plus an electric pump. Should be abloe to start on this next weekend. I will take pics as a progress. Thsi air intrusion and using the engine driven pump is for the birds.

Wife is pickup a cheap electric fuel pump for me on her way home, that and a bucket fo fuel should get the air out of the system to the IP, then I can figure out where else its leaking. I had a good filter full earlier, but now nothing coming out the schrader valve. This is annoying to say the least.

Oh well it keeps my mind busy I guess.

I plan on continuing to runt he manul pump on the enigne for normal operation, But i will have the pump in parallel with the mech pump to help with priming.

Just got home from work, wish I had checked OB at lunch. Hey gunz, if you need a hand just call/PM me up. I am arriving late here but have you removed the filter, filled it with fuel and reinstalled it? Any luck?
