I really don't know why this happened but the motor ran for a while by the looks of things. The piston shows some hammering on top but I dought its from a glow plug. The dents are way too large. I did find a small piece of metal where the pencil is pointing to. The rod bearings all looked the same really worn thru to the copper babbit. The shot of the area just above the comp ring shows some eybrow crushing that happened long before the rod let go. I never did find the rest of the rod either. It didn't go theu the pan or the oil pump.

Ouch! :eek: chunk of a valve seat maybe?

Yes. Thats the block and crank thats got my ported heads on now in my truck. It may very well might be part of an exhaust valve seat. I be checking for that soon.:D

i'm hoping this damage was the reason for the rebuild and didn't happen after.
i'm having trouble with the time line, sorry
