I'm rigging up to install an oil temp gauge in the pan while the engine is apart, and while gauge shopping was wondering what the max oil temp range would be needed . Some of those darn oil temp gauges barely go as high as coolant temp cookoo

Thanks--------Robert

I saw a max of 180* out of mine not hauling anything, after about an hour of driving. I would say get one that goes to about 300*, just to give you some play room.

That reminds me, I need to order a new sender/amp box for mine.

I'm running an Isspro oil temp gage that goes up to 320 degrees. When a freeze plug popped out it saw about 330 degrees. Usually it runs about 20 degrees above coolant temps.

I have an oil temp gauge on the Moose Truck, mounted a good bit away from the motor on the FS-2500 bypass filter. When pulling a sustained grade, with high EGT's you can really watch those piston cooling jets at work. The oil temp will really start to climb. With 195 on the water temp, I'll see oil temps in the low 230's.
