Manual hub screws?

My truck has Superwinch manual hubs on it. And of course on each "cap" there are 6 hex head allen bolts holding the cap on.

I rounded out or partially rounded out the heads on a couple of these bolts on mine when I took it all apart so I'd like to replace them.

However, the Superwinch hubs apparently use some kind of weird tapered head allen bolt in them (the head tapers down to the threaded shaft, there is no "shoulder" on the head).

I'm not sure why they felt the need to use this kind of bolt, and I'm guessing I probably can't get replacements for it (or can you?). I suppose my main question is, could I possible run into some kind of weird problems using a regular bolt in a tapered hole?

I would take one into Fastenal. They may be able to match them up for you. I would try to put back in what came out.... since the hole is tapered to match the bolt.

Looks like there is one in your town. I would think the hub may move around a bit without the taper.......

You can mash a torx bit in to loosen and tighten them too. Ugly but it works.
