Loose injector? Remove and inspect or just tighten?

Ok this 93 truck I picked up has a loose injector. When it runs I can see bubbles at the base where the injector meets the head. So should I just try to tighten this up or do I need to make sure to remove it and inspect it? I'm worried that escaping gases might have cut a groove in the head or the injector. I'm also worried the seat might be trash from running like this. I'm also worried other injectors may be loose. We're out of town for the next couple days so I'll have to work on it then. I do have a set of copper washers if needed.

So remove and inspect or just tighten it up? Ideally I'd pull all injectors right now and at least have them tested and then reinstall, but I'm going for cheap and quick as I don't have a lot of time or money to put into this until later the summer.

Id tighten it. If the leak goes away it was a free easy fix.

You answered your own question. Pull the damn thing out, clean any carbon in the seat, put a new copper washer on, screw it back in and tighten to 35 ft lbs., job done, no nervous nelly.

If you pull the injector look closely at the copper gasket. It may have a cut in it because its the softer material. To check the seat in the head you need a straight dental pick. Drag it around the seat surface. If it sticks somewhere then you have a cut in the head that will require a seat reamer tool to clean up the seat or the new gasket wont so any good. 35 lbs is the torque on the injector as posted above.

Where does a guy get one of the seat reamer tools if one is needed? I know rotunda had a special tool. I have access to all sorts of end mills and other machine tools at work. As long as it would clean up the seat it should work right?

That might be hard to find. I borrowed one, as part of a set, when I did the job. It's good to have friends willing to loan tools.

If I remember correctly the reamer is the thing toward the lower left, under the wire brush. It has a red cap on the end to protect the cutter head.

Ok I tried to tighten the injector and it is really tight. I then tried to remove it and it barely turned. So I left it for now. Later this summer I'll pull all the injectors and probably put a new set in at that time. Not tickled with this, but I don't have time to dig any deeper. I found a seat reamer tool set on Amazon for 75 bucks that does a bunch of different sizes. I'll have to keep my eyes out for just the ford tool also.

Ya better fix it now. It's gonna be a lot worse if you don't, geez it only takes a few minutes to remove it, once you have it loose as much as possible, squirt some rust breaker oil on it, anything but WD40, then work it out, ya know, in and out til it comes out. Use some Never sieze on it going back in.

PB Breaker I think is the name or Aero Kroil if you have some.

Yea, sounds like that injector bore is pretty well crapped up with carbon. PB Blaster does good, I used Carb cleaner the last time I had this happen.

I should state this trucks sitting for the next month anyway. I'm out of town basically now until the end of July. Then I'll dig into it. Yeah I was figuring to hose it down with pb blaster. I figure if it's got one injector jacked up I probably should reseat them all. If it would have been a 10 minute deal it would be fixed by now. I could barely budge the injector with a 2 foot breaker bar. So I'm anticipating this being a little more than a simple injector job. I'm anticipating having to earn everyone of these I get out.

Do the copper washers normally come out with the injector?

I just replaced the injectors in my van and only 2 out of 8 injectors came out with the copper washer on them. I was a bit concerned about how I was going to get them out since I was pretty much working by mirror in the van to see them. Turns out if you use a standard screwdriver in which the tip fits in the middle of the washer about 1/4" before bottoming (screwdriver blades are tapered) you can give it just a little love tap and it will seat itself in the soft copper. Give it a little twist back and forth to ensure it is loose and it should pull out attached to your screwdriver. Make sure your bore and injector seat are nice and clean before stuffing an injector back in.

If that's the case, truck setting, just back all of them out a turn and let them soak in PB blaster while your gone. Prolly do a lot of good.
The washers don't always come out with the injector, some times even the nozzle cap will unscrew from the main body when backing out, then you have to grind the body threads off and screw it back into the nozzle tight, then break that loose.
