I want to turbo my '93 IDI ZF-5 4x4 with a factory setup. Stock with the pump maxed should be enough extra for me, not looking for 1000 hp :)

But IDI's seem to be rare around here (south central MO) and expensive when they do show up on Craigslist. I could buy a complete truck and part it out/scrap after removing the turbo components. Or just an IDI with the turbo and pipes. Or even just the turbo setup!

Currently there is only a '94 auto 4x4 that had an underhood fire which spread to the interior for $700. It's 2 hours away and I suspect any aluminum parts are toast.

Where is everyone finding these IDIT bargains I keep reading about? I know, in other states ;)
Thanks for any hints.

If you are looking for a complete OEM type turbo kit, contact Russ @typ4. I have no idea on the cost, but it will save you waiting on the next truck being parting out to come along. The kit will also be ready to install and run when you get it. I bought a turbo motor for the turbo kit, but the turbo needed a rebuild so Russ is doing that for me now.

Unless he sells used stock setups, they're out of my budget. :dunno
Just to provide some data points, a new Hypermax kit is $2395 before the discount for creating an account (10%?) and Banks is closer to $3k.

Russ bought the remaining stock of OEM idi turbo parts when ATS stopped manufacture and support. I believe Russ' kits are made up of NOS ATS parts, some good used parts, and some reproduction parts, but I understand that it is a complete kit. Might still be worth it to contact him, as even if you find a used kit somewhere, Russ has replacement parts available - pedestal grommet, gaskets, oil line seals, etc. I picked up a complete turbo motor with all the OEM turbo parts, for $450.00. While all the parts are there, the turbo needed a rebuild, so that is another $650.00. Now add in misc. stuff like paint, fluids, shipping, gaskets, exhaust parts, adding a boost gauge (already have a pyro) and the total project will probably be in the area of $1,500.00 when all is said and done.

Thanks, I've messaged typ4 and Turbosurge.

I'm tempted to roll my own... a Chinese-copy turbo is cheap enough, but by the time I fab (or buy) a hat, pedestal, and a crapload of mandrel bends and silicone elbows, I'd probably be close to the same amount!

Also, check car-part.com. Wreckers from all over have their listings there and you should be able to find something and get it shipped.

Thanks for the tip. There are lots of 7.3 IDI turbos listed on car-part.com for $200 to $500 but I think those are just the turbo without all the piping... I submitted a request for quote on a complete setup (or a 7.3 IDIT) and will see if anyone replies!

I bought a complete kit from Russ. It came with a new up pipe and a fresh upgraded 60-1 turbo. New seals, gaskets, hardware and a braided stainless turbo oil feed line kit. iirc, it was about $1300 shipped from the other side of the country.

Yeah, I probably should have contacted Russ before I bought the used turbo motor and bought one of his kits.

^^^^^^^This is less money than it cost me to buy a kit on Ebay aaaaaaand then find out it was clapped out and had to buy a new center housing.

So I paid more to get just an old stocker working ok than you got for all the upgrades and new up-pipes. Mine are pitted and it took a long time to seal half-decently.
