Look at what I found on CL

I saw an ad, for a 7.3 non-turbo motor. The guy said there had been a problem with the #8 cylinder losing compression, but that was about it. Since the price was right, I figured I could pick it up and use it for some extra parts. It came with the IP, injector lines, new GP's and what I guess to be the flex plate.

If nothing else, I'll have a spare crank, heads, oil cooler, oil pan, intake, injector lines and an IP that can be used as a core. He even threw in a generator for the same price as the motor.... FREE!

Lucky dog... you wouldn't happen to have a spare set of valve covers I could bolt on to this motor after I get the turbo off, do ya?

Yep... All it cost me, was the gas to drive there and back... 120 miles total.. If my truck were road worthy, it would have been almost nothing for fuel...

The guy that gave me this motor, said that there was low compression in the #8 cylinder. The diesel mechanic that looked at it, told him it was a faulty "Oil injector" I've never heard of that one...

If this turns out to be a good motor, I have no idea what I'll do with it. I mainly got it for parts.

Any thoughts?

if it were a good motor, or thought to be good.... you could tear it apart still and double check that is in pristine condition, then drop it in the 93 and rebuild that motor...... or ditch the 6.9 in your 87 and stick the good 7.3 in it........ yup yup yup

I will be tearing into it, as time permits... I could always use the rockers in the 6.9.. I'm assuming that the oil cooler would work for either motor. The guy never said if there were air bubbles in the coolant, so I don't know if it could have cavitated.

The valve covers are already spoken for... They will be put on the truck that my turbo is coming off of..

She did come down the steps, while we were loading the motor!
