Hey guys I have a 1970 International Loadstar 1850 I got from a guy a while ago and I was wondering what engine is in it. The guy told us what it was but this is about 4 years ago and we forgot to write the engine down. Its a diesel and its base horsepower is 185. We think it is 365, but if I need correcting please correct me. We have looked around for a while, but can't get a straight answer lol. Thanks:dunno

My mistake; I thought all of their bigger trucks were Loadstars...but, yeah, re-watching the video, I can see the "Fleetstar" emblem on the bow. Oops

However, I do still recall hearing about diesel Loadstars before...although I think you're right that most of them were g@$$ers. OTOH, maybe someone did a conversion in the OP's truck?

Nice lookin' dumptruck, by the way ;Sweet

The short nose on the Loadstars were on of the issues leading to its demise. An inline 6 diesel was basically unable to fit in the engine bay. I would believe that if a big block gasser IH engine would fit, the 6.9/7.3 couldn't be too far from being shoe horned in there as well.

It could be a DV- 473 or a DV-550. There were some with a D-301 or a 354 perkins but those were in the early 60's model. Although I have seen some with a 4-53 detroit. Arround 1975 the DT-466 was "reengineered" to fit in the loadstar. After 76 3208 Cats, DV-550s, and DT-466s were common. The DT-466 Loadstar had the firewall modified and a short doghouse for the engine to fit. The 9.0 L was after the Loadstar series. The 9.0 L was an upgraded DV-550. Eason

NOt all detroit diesels were inline engines. a 6-71 was a 6 cylinder inline diesel engine with 71 cubic inches per cylinder. 426 cubic inches.

However a 6V-71, was a V6 diesel engine with 71 cubic inches per cylinder....also 426 cubic inches.

It could be a 6V-53 as the 53 series engines were introduced in 1957. the 6V-53 was nicnamed the 318 dertoit as it was 318 cuybic inches. that was also a V6 configuration.
