Largest BTU Rated Aux Trans Cooler for a 1994 E350 IDI Van?

Hi Forum! Does anyone have any experience with installing a high btu trans cooler in a van? Replacing trans and want to bypass factory cooler in radiator. Largest that will fit? Brand or model number? Thanks!

There have been LOTS of threads about transmission coolers and their installation. I'm not sure any have been van specific, though. I'll guess that it can't be too different from a truck.

I have a True-Cool Max 47391. That is the same as the 4739, but without the little cut-off devise, which I found useless. My transmission runs cooler without that little thermostatic shutoff thing.

2003 to 2008 chrysler grand caravans. Long thin trans coolers. You can run two or three in series. They cool exceptionally well

Doing this for three reasons, one, Ford wants this to warranty new rebuilt trans and two, the factory unit is just ok, I want to cool more efficiently. Three, I may use the original trans cooler as a possible heat exchanger

He's trying to explain to you that it is not a really good idea to bypass the transmission cooler built into the bottom section of the radiator. The water/transmission fluid heat exchange does cool the transmission fluid quite a bit. It's much more effective and efficient than a straight air/transmission fluid exchange. The aux cooler takes the transmission fluid down further. The flow path is transmission--->radiator cooler---->aux cooler---->transmission.

Can you bypass the radiator cooler for the transmission fluid? Of course you can. Your choice. But why pass up the opportunity to make your transmission fluid noticeable cooler, when that is the objective of the whole exercise?

If you bypass the radiator and run only an aux cooler it will void that warranty.
Liquid to liquid cooling is far more efficient than liquid to air.

Thanks, yes I have considered this too . . . the one thing I am learning about my transmission fiasco is the cooler the better - may just plumb in the aux after the stock set up -thanks

That's the way to plumb it.
Keeping the fluid in the pan 150-175 makes a long lasting transmission.
