IP Removal

You came to the right place.
Read up on the IDI tech articles, I think this is well covered there. If its not, do a search.
The most important thing to know is, DO NOT REMOVE THE ROUNDED COVER THAT THE INJECTION PUMP BOLTS TO.
Remove the injector lines with the IP attached. Remove the IP by removing the three 9/16 nuts from the rear side of that rounded housing. Again, do NOT remove that housing, or you will have MAJOR problems timing it, and add many HOURS to the repair time. Keep the clips that connect the various injection lines together. Make sure you reinstall them, or the lines will crack.
Again, this is the best source of information for your truck. Forget what all your friends say, or the mechanic down the street. This is the authoritative source for all info. Read and learn.

There's lots you need to know, and be aware of. One of the primary things you need to know is what NOT to do. You need to know when to ask questions. I doubt that there is any question about these engine which can't be answered here.

I've heard people talking about turning the fuel up and one guy said turn the pump to the passenger side but after reading the articles etc. all I see that does is screw the timing up.I've taken one apart already before but other then putting the line back in the center on IP and outside cover is there anything that needs to be done to make sure it is as it was?

Taking off and reinstalling the same pump is going to be easy to maintain the same timing but..... Any other pump will change the timing. Sorry but you will need to have the motor timed by someone that knows how to do this if you replace your pump. The timing marks really don't mean anything when you change pumps. So, if your removing and reinstalling your same pump do this... Make a witness mark in the joint between the pump and the aluminum housing it bolts to. Then you can see which way the pump has to move to align it up. I like to use a center punch because it makes a round mark. Then if it moves you end up with teo half circles so its eay to bring it back to where it was. Mel introduced this here many years ago... Thanks Mel for that really helpful tip...
