Im about to start working on putting a 7.3 psd intercooler in my 86 when i get the engine back in, my question is, the inter cooler has 3" outlets, can i use reducers and run 2.5 inch pipe instead? And it still work ok? or should i use 3" i just figure 2.5 will be easy to work with, ans my local exhuast shop can bend 3" without kinkin

I think 2.5 is just fine when you reduce at the intercooler the air will slow down as it goes into the cooler then when it comes out it will speed up again in the smaller pipe to the hat then swirl down into the manafold. no problem thats how I will do mine.

Cubic are of a 2.5 inch pipe thats 5ft long is 98 cu inches.

Cubic area of a 3 inch pipe thats 5 ft long is 141.4 cu inches.

So with 3 inch pipe you have to fill an extra 86.8 cu inches of space considering the return path.
