I'm sure this has been asked, but I can not find it. About to install injectors on my 85 f250 6.9. Do I need to soak them in anything before install?

No. Just put some antiseize on the threads that go into the heads. Put the new copper washers (seals) in the holes and install.

Use a little grease for install(high temp wheel bearing grease):
1. A little dab will keep the new copper washer on the bottom.
2. Another dab on the threads will help keep them sealed; help prevent water from getting in from outside.
3. Use some more when installing the O-rings; coat the O-rings with it, and lubricate the inside of the cap.

Is it recommended to paint the exposed portion of the injector body? I swapped mine out in January, used anti-seize on the threads but left the rest bare. Anyone have a reason to do more than that?

Personally I like to place plastic caps on any exposed threads while installing. Likely your injectors have some sort of protector already on them, but if not I would advise something to cover the threads for the injector lines. And it never hurts to cover the holes you're not installing injectors in, because things always seem to fall.

Finally, if you have the lines loose, now is a fantastic time to test your glowplugs and make sure those are all in working order.

I use an Eastwood product that is similar to a clear coat. Basically just gives raw material a protective layer without needing any real prep.

The New injectors should have the copper washers already on them, do not remove them and then install them separately, there is a chance they could become "Cocked" when installing the injector. Torque injectors to 35 -40 ft lbs.

I have seen the auto parts store packaging, with one injector inside a large foam coffin and I think those did have the copper washer on them. You're likely right that the smaller shops package differently, and thus no washer preinstalled.

I was told by a pump and injector rebuilder that if you do put antisieze down the body toward the bottom of the injector, to not put any on the very bottom. It can get hot, run down, and clog the injector. Like most rebuilders, he wasn't worth a hoot on IDI stuff, but I tend to believe him about this.

The anti sieze cant get inside the injector from the bottom to clog it.
The new delphis came with a washer pushed on, it had a smaller ID and stayed put, stanadynes have a loose washer held on with some sort of grease. All the supplied washers we can get are loose it so need grease to stick them on. They are safer in the install kit bag.
