This topic is kinda weird... but I gotta say that my 6.9 would run like a song if an EMP hit it. You can always run 12V to the fuel shutoff, and you can always jump the GP selonoid.

Al what are you talking about bugging out.
I figured we would all bug out to you and Kevin across the border.
I am talking about those who have have and go, and I"m one whom has and will go. I've got the gear/skillz and will be gone in a heart beat if SHTF no questions asked...well ifn I ever get my truck back together that is..

I am joking for the most part but am serious,
THAT'S who^^^^

What's RTT?
RTT
You must be registered for see images attach

THAT's a RTT Roof Top Tent

I'm thinking EMP is least of my worries.
More like marshal law, IMO.
Or foreign invasion.
Ya foreign invasion into Canada...= US take over...ROFL
Marshal law..See above
EMP See above...

Anyway this is way off IDI and if continues this way needs go into lounge..

BOTTOM line BOV for me IDI all the way!

The point of this whole thing is I was born 50 years ago and have watched this civilization be turned inside and out in the last 50 years. Since the great depression we have gone form a civilization that can fend for itself and live in it's own ECO system to a herd that is managed by the credit monopoly with digital #'s on a computer screen and our rulers could crash the system with a flick of the switch and some estimate 90% of Americans could and would perish in such a situation.

Our rulers would not want to do this because they do not want the sheople to figure out they have been conquered with an accounting gimmick. Just do the slow burn and finish the middle class off then blame free and open markets when in reality the whole system has been rigged by the creditors!.

I agree it would not be by EMP as a whole but it would not surprise me at all to see a NUC go off somewhere within the next 5 or so years.

So old school motors are the ticket in such a situation, how does the old points style gas compare to a simple diesel in a situation of simpler is better for the long run?

I am 60, do you believe that?

So is it 50 or 60? There seems to be some confusion here.
As this thread struggles to maintain technical merit, if you can't keep it on topic, to the lounge it goes. Final warning!

It's on topic I just want to know how the new stuff will fair if the parts dry up as well as I have toyed with the idea of getting another truck going for the long run or just look to my 1994 IDI T to be that truck. I have a 1999 4.6 F150 and I am wondering if that may be the ticket but from reading these post most feel a IDI would be way better than that. I was considering a 7.3 PS as well and most feel that is a better truck but for what may be coming an IDI is probably better.

How does a carb points motor compare to a IDI in a situation for long term? diesel is much easier to refine than gas? I am 49.

NO newer vehicles would likely fair well compared to a SOLID running IDI, especially if you collect parts.

Remember there is LESS to collect with a solid running IDI, less to diagnose etc. You keep wondering but your not seeming to understand the simplicity of what you have compared to the complexity of newer stuff.

Solenoids and GP relays and GP"s are just an device that passes current or electro mechanical switches. NOT circuites like on computer PCB. I'd stay with a MANUAL transmission for ease of use, less ***** to worry about such as comp and solenoids etc on E4OD a C6 would be a solid slush box mind you!

Points are again a simple electro mechanical switch, same as FSS in our IP just electro mechanical switch.

All of this has been pointed out repeatedly and I'm not sure how many times in this thread, and others.

Good luck with your choice, what ever you choose, you have been informed by many, now it's up to you...MAKE a choice and go with it.

Lastly, I don't know where you live in Florida, but if you live in a major city, like Miami, then unless you have advanced knowledge of a meltdown/attack/etc, you're already f****ed over. If you even survive the initial event, every path out of that city will be blocked, clogged, dangerous, etc.

how about like the 1999 4.6, it is not nearly as electronically complicated as the new stuff or is it? I know of course it has a computer.

Just curious as to weather or not I should keep it or get something else, the cabs are made a lot better than the earlier gen truck.

4.6... great as long as you don't ever have to pull more than it weighs and remember to sell it before it's time to change the sparks plugs. Had one in a 06 F150... Ford did not have a better idea using that for a truck engine. The 300 L6 would eat it's lunch.

You are right about the plugs and I hear the 5.4 is even worse but the early 2 valve 4.6 have been known to run and run and run. One guy here in my neck has a F150 work truck with 422,000 miles on it and has never been into it majorly. It is smoking now however.

He is the original owner and most mechanics have told me it is a great motor. I have heard the 5.4 2 valve are not as good? but they pull much better and the gas bill shows it. I rented a 5.4 3 valve and it would suck fuel but pulled well.

I don't have any experience with the modular engines, other than driving a 2012 E350 5.4 for a day, and I did enjoy driving it. I don't know however anything about their issues, reliability, etc. other than there are a lot of high mile F150s out there. How well they run, I have no idea.

The cabs on the newer designed F150 97 n up are a major improvement over the old cab. They stay tight do not leak air and the windows stay glued to the doors and the doors are air tight and shut perfect even with high miles as well as a much better interior design as well as better seats and so forth. Mine has 175000 miles on it and the cab is like not a rattle at all or a whistle at high speed and the interior has not broken down in the slightest..

I don't really think people are that stupid to think if suddenly the electronic virtual money went away, that all would come to an end. If everyone went about their day the same, all would still work. All that would happen is they would give up all their wealth, which is the last thing they want to do.
