Ok I'm wanting to take my 7.3 out of my 83 and build it.i was plannin on a full moose or omega moose pump,moose mister mark 2 injectors,arp head studs,a cam of some sort I haven't made up my mind yet,r&d performance turbo kit,like a 4 inch exhaust and that's about as far as I've gottin. What would be a good cam.ive heard great things about type4 cams.and can I getta south bend clutch for my 4 speed.there won't be no way for my stock clutch to handle the power I want.what are some of y'all's suggestions cause I wanna drop this motor in my 86 because I haul a lot of stuff and I live in the hills and wanna be able to pull easier.

Personally I trust Mel or Russ for the CORRECT hi po parts. They have never steered anyone wrong with upgrades.. Your 83 rig did not come with a 7.3 engine either so either you or some other owner installed it. The rig is a nice looker too. Be careful on clutch types too. A few years back we saw some that were drilled off center. It caused plenty of vibration and was a horrible job finding out what was wrong. Have not heard of this happening again. ARP studs are about the best stud because they are doing plenty of engineering up there. When I decided to use them I had just broken 2 of my original Kens studs. They were the H13 270,000 psi breaking strength studs. I left the broken studs with ARP engineers so they could figure out why they broke. The Cam Russ is famous for really works. Its been proven many times here. Had I know of it when I built my engine I would have used it. Still may do just that.

Buy Justins intake manifold too, it looks ****. His turbo kits are pricey but if you think about it, they arent that bad compared to the banks and hypermax kits.

Ya dad is the second owner of my 83 which he gave me and it went trough a flood were water was over the cab. We bought a 92 7.3 and had it installed for me a play toy when I was younger and te guy that did it never finished.so 2 years ago I went and we got it runnin right because it was runnin 90psi of oil pressure at idle and we hooked the wirin up so it runs off the key.i know the motor is good in it but need to be freshend up.it has no ip now cause it's in my truck. And ya I figured it'd be better to go with Mel on the pump and injectors but r&d's turbo kit didn't look to bad. But I've gotta though a new motor in my truck cause I think it's gotta blown head gasket or somethin and leaks oil plus I need more power to haul stuff

The factory used Mahle pistons. They are hard to beat too but custom pistons can be made too. The newer pistons have the better wider rings plus you get a black hard anodising on the tops. Just a note about the oem pistons. No matter non turbo or turbo pistons. The minimum dome thickness is around 560 to 580 thousands. Milling off some of that to lower the compression ratio wont hurt but don't try more than 15 thousands. What happens if you do is your now exposing the top ring to much more heat. Thats not a good thing. I realize some have taken 25 or so thousands off pistons and say they are not seeing any issues. Might be so but.. I talked with the piston engineers at Mahle about what I printed here. I don't make this stuff up.

Well thank ya I want somethin to lower the compression some and to with stand heat more then the standard piston.like ceramic coating maybe
