IDI 7 PSD 3

got back from a week's vacation yesterday and went out to go to work this morning. turns out i'd left my satellite radio reviever on the whole week which drained the batts in the SD to the point where it would fart but not start this cold morning. (20 something deg F)

after 1/2 hour of various tries with multiple batts and a charger i gave up on the PSD fired up the 125k btu torpedo, aimed at the front bumper. tried the IDI. she fired up dead cold after a couple fires of the GPs and soon smoothed out. OK so off to the lumber yard. oops i forgot my list. turned around went back and decided to try PoSD one more time. chug ok it finally started i guess the heater did the trick. at least i didnt have to switch out all my tools.

tomorrow i'll be running old faithful since i have a bad front wheel bearing on SD and i have to go into the city, 45 mile round trip. it's nice to have a good backup truck

You went on the trip and didn't take your Sirius? Shame shame shame. It's nice to have a backup. My 4 door Maverick sat for 2 months without running. I went out the other day and it fired up on the first try. Sometimes older is better.

BTW Rob while we were in Cleveland we didn't see any snow. I found it kind of hard to ski on the grass Hope you had a good vacation. Welcome back.

Soon as I get the PSD here and patched up it's time to sell the IDI and but the money in the bank for the Jacuzzi tub in the new master bath.

interesting. my IDI hates to start in the cold and my PSD fires right up without waiting for the GPs.gotta cycle the IDIs GPs atleast 5 times if not more even with brand new plugs in it

Yeah that PSD would have started great if it hadn't have been for the drained batts. Both the IDIs and 'strokes start cold well when everything is right. That veing said I'm having to fight mine some, but I know that's because of running B100 and a couple cold mornings. Even so, plug in the block heater and its all good. Rich, I have been thinking for sometime that IDI in your 450 is a ****. They should not be as quick as a PSD but they should start and run as well as one. The poor fuel mileage also is not typical.

same thing happened this morning. 23 degrees. fully charged batts this time. i definitly have some GPs out. it did finally start after half a dozen tries cycling the GPs and cranking (a lot). i even waited 10 seconds after the WTS light went out to start cranking. it would kick on one jug but wouldn't catch. guess i have some work to do. just got the wheel bearing assembly today as well.

on topic for this forum, IDI fired up a little less eagerly than yesterday but still only 3 fires of the GPs. took it on the longest ride it's had in months, even wound it up on the freeway. runs good. dang tires shake like a beeotch though.

Rich, I have been thinking for sometime that IDI in your 450 is a ****. They should not be as quick as a PSD but they should start and run as well as one. The poor fuel mileage also is not typical.

it was perfectly fine till i had it inspected the first time when they did the emissions test.after that its been downhill and fast.before i had the first inspection done(i drove 2 months with a bad sticker)i used less than 1/8 tank of fuel to go from my house to my parents house 32 miles away.after the inspection i have been useing atleast 1/4 tank of fuel for the same trip.ive done # IPs and 1 set of injectors.now if i let it sit for a few days it makes a loud popping noise out the intake.so now i guess i need a valve job.this is a jasper reman with just over 100,000 miles on it.

That is the problem right there, I always have the feeling I may need a replacement engine before it should.
