I like 'em stacked

As the title says.... but I'm unsure if I really want to do stacks or not. I have always been opposed to doing it to my truck because of the sound that it might introduce to the cab and it would require boring big holes in the bed. But after careful considerations I came to realize that "look the truck is a 95 with 250k on it - it just doesn't have much resale value as it is so"

So boys how is the sound? I missed riding in a stacked truck at this years IDI Event I wanted to but I kept putting it off about asking for a ride because I was too busy doing other things - so that's my fault....

Now I know that when I do this I want to do twin stacks becacuse I just think that it would balance out the look verses a lop sided single - just my opinion - no offense to those that have singles but how to you keep the smoke output equal between the two of them with a single exhaust?

Do the kits that you can purchase do they even it out for you?

Should I restrict the tube going up on the input side?

not really getting an eye ball on setup before I'm sort of in the dark here.

Trav, Nicks and my trucks are very simular. So I can compare the two of them. I don't think Nicks is all that much louder than mine. I think the large size of the stacks keep the noise level low enough in frequency that it may seam quiter. I would run a muffler though. But how are you going to haul the camper with the stacks? I don't think momma would want them run up thru her kitchen.

That's one reason I don't have them.

Travis. When you install them, there can be
a "box" or manifold, to help balance out
the smoke. However, the right side seems
to always puff a little sooner than the left.

I have a single 3 inch going in to my crossbox and when I make smoke, you can't tell one side from the other. My inlet is about 8 inches from the right stack, 3 feet from the left, yet sound and such is VERY well balanced. Mine are twin 3 inch stacks as well, and the only time I could see you needing to balance the two would be if you use a stack so large you can't fill it volumetrically, otherwise, you are going to fill them both full of the black stuff and noise.

On my truck, I have a 3 inch welded oval racing muffler and to tell you the truth, it isn't all that loud. It is VERY deep but it is also NA, yours being turbo would quiet it considerably. I heard a Powerstroke idling this morning on my way to camp heritage, and it had twin stacks and a crossover box and no muffler - sounded very similar to mine with a muffler.

Seriously though, I love mine. No muffler, sound is awsome. Serious turbo whistle, that you can really only hear when it echos back off of something like a brick row home, or dense trees. Too bad you didn't approach this subject at the rally. The Moose Truck just recieved a brand new home made dual 3" exhaust, which did not get much if any coverage in the rally discussions. Just like the 2" body lift.

Seriously, the Moose truck looks better / nice w/ the lift and sounds soo much better. Mel, I do not think I ever recall hearing turbo whistle from that truck before.

I made my own T out of 2 90's and placed it in the middle of the bed and if you watched the vids from the rally the smokes pretty even just need a healthy pump mines getting real weak and running the bean don't help But the good sign is I found a shop close by that says they can build anything I want for an IDI

I didn't even know you did the upgrades... but that just goes to show how much I pay attention... to many bright shiney objects and compound that with a short attention span and there you have it....
