I think it speaks volumes that folks pack up their whole families, drive hundreds of miles, use up valuable vacation time and are already getting fired up for next year.

Now... I don't know but I did speak with someone that is kicking around the idea of hosting one but it's a little to early to let the cat out of the bag. I'm hoping for another one here in Indiana or Michigan but that would be unfair to those that live further away and I have had the joy of having two of them basically in my back yard so to speak so... I'm willing to take sometime next year and do a little driving to attend one - both Sherri and I will have some vacation time to burn and we are looking for something to do. So as long as it's within a couple days drive I'm for it!

A couple days drive huh? It might be nice to just see how far people are willing to drive to such an event. With popularity and growth, it would be nice to see it move more centrally located in the US. But then again most attendees live east of the Mississippi. It probably would not be as enjoyable if the "regulars" were not there. There's something to be said about regional get togethers, but to have everyone in one place once a year would be nice. Personally, Carla and I were planning on attending this year, but business obligations and me running out of vacation time prematurely put the nix on that. I believe it would have been 1340 miles one way for us. I don't have a problem with the distance it takes to get there, but some folks don't have that kind of time they can take off.

I know it may be a stretch, but maybe if one location could be decided on, then the person(s) managing the event could change each year...voluntarily of course. Just an idea.

Examples. All my biker buddies go to Sturgis each year. I belong to the National Impala Owners Association. They have their national rally in Spearfish, SD each year and it is an organization that is not much farther along than we IDI'ers are. Daytona bike week. The Indy 500. These are all examples of events that are a destination for people and families for which plans are made a year in advance. For some people, six months is not enough time to plan on attending such an event due to finances, job obligations, family, etc. I know for us, anything 400 miles or less is an overnighter and requires very little planning. But that's just because of where we live and what we are accustomed to. For some 400 miles is a big trip.

It would be kind of nice to have the rally centralized in the US.

One thing we could do is everybody that is planning or thinking about attending tell us the city/state they live in. Then we take that info and find its Latitude/Longitude, then we take all of them for everybody whos thinking about attending and then find the average. The average will tell you were is the average Lat/Long, and is the best place for the rally. Only problem is that its gonna be over on the east coast, so alot of us over on the west coast probably wont attend. Its just a thought...

The problem with even a west coast rally is that the West is just so damn BIG. We need to get together Northwest style. Maybe between Portland and Seattle. Or between Vancouver WA and Salem OR. That sounds much easier

, thats sounds a little bit to far north... Maybe just around salem somewhere, now that sounds better. . Although if you want to have it in or around Portland, maybe you can host it , just a thought.

Anybody thinking of TEXAS as a potential meeting place? It will be a good midway point for the southwest and east

Texas... yeah that sounds good to me . Lets see what the "easterners" say though. Lets just not have the rally in PA or something, I know it would be nice for you guys over there, but I would really like a chance to get to come to one of these, and Texas is alot closer than PA.

trust me on this....
the drive from the left coast is nothing short of brutal.
it's roughly 1800 miles from the SF bayarea to central TX. I've done the "commute" more times than I care to recount. Still, there's much to be seen in TX and much of it is good! And so is the food;p;p;p

I'm willing to do it, if anybody else is willing to. I'll just figure 5500 miles round trip, and say I get 14 MPG average, I would burn 393 gallons of fuel. Dang thats alot of fuel, I better start making bio pretty soon. If I just bought regular number 2 though, it would cost me about $1200 yikes thats a lot of mulla. I will definatly have to make my own bio if I were to do this.
