So tomorrow I’m going to look at a 1996 F350 with 340000 miles. I want to trade it for my 05 Mustang GT. The guy has 10 years worth of service records and truck is in great shape. Is this too many miles?

No.. our first 7.3 powerstrokes all outlasted the bodies. And they were towing everyday. We had many that we're approaching 400,000 miles that the bodies were just shot. But the engines still ran well. None of them were turned up. Plus the idle time.. I'm stuck on location right now and my truck hasbeen running for 3 days,24 hrs.

I was just sitting here thinking,my old 7.3 powerstroke used to sit and idle for 2 or 3 weeks sometimes and never even be shut off.

I honestly believe the harder a diesel has been worked the longer it will last. My 04 Dodge has just shy of five hundred thousand miles, don't know the hours because it clocked out at 10 thousand. It truly runs and sounds like the day I got it.

Our last Matco tool guy had a 5.9 in his tool truck. It had over 30000 hrs on it.the carb laws retired it.

When I was diving one o the trucks I pulled with was a 99 cclb psd I started driving that truck with 159k miles when I quit diving the truck had 364k miles and ran like a champ I was never worried to go cross country in that truck and know when we hit the scales we weighed in at least 19k there were a few trips we were close to 25k also that truck was on a very tight matience schedule every 3k miles for oil an 7k for fuel because this truck idled all the time an I can honestly say there were days it would run 20 to 35 hours straight
