High HP OBS 7.3 Build, Advice?

Hello everybody, I have a '92 ECLB 4x4 that currently has a 7.3idi with either a bad head gasket or cavitation issues... The E4OD that's in the truck seems to shift fine.

Anyway, I'd like to swap a 7.3 psd into the truck, I know I need at least a pcm, engine, gas pedal, and harness. Getting a donor truck isn't out of the question, but I'd like to get everything from ebay and junkyards if possible. I'm already planning on pulling the dash, seats and carpet in my truck, so the swap shouldn't be too big of a deal.

What I need to know is, will the psd bolt to the existing motor mounts, and can I use my tranny with the new motor?

I'm assuming a '94.5-'97 motor would be best for my application? I can intercool it after it's in the truck.

Also, I'd like to make close to 600hp if possible with this motor, so what should I do to it before it's in the truck?

I know this is ambitious, but I have the time to do it, and I feel confident in doing the work. This truck isn't a DD and has some sentimental value so I'd like to have fun with it.


And here's the truck in question, this picture was before I replaced most of the front clip and it has a new bumper now... I'm planning on a new bed or maybe a flatbed, about 4" of lift and a paint job as well.

Trans won't work.
Can be made to work, but it's gonna need upgraded anyways. So I would go built 4r100, if you wanna stay auto.
You'll need the whole under hood harness and under dash harness.
Big injectors, t4 turbo, intercooler, chip, list goes on.
You're looking at close to $10k including a built trans.

you can use your e4od from behind your idi and put it behind your psd.

needed:
95-97 solenoid pack.
6 stud diesel e40d torque converter.

optional but recommended (bare minimum) since the trans is out....err fully accessible,lets say,anyway.
transgo tugger kit
95+ high volume pump (F5)

but,yeah.don't expect it to last.shoot,you couldn't ask an old c6 to hold together at 600 hp and 8-900 ft lbs either.your going to need to shell out 5k or so for a built e4.

Staying auto isn't that important... If I find a good zf5 and psd combo I wouldn't have an issue just getting that to work in the truck.

Or I might just go grab an e4od and tcm/wiring out of a psd truck...

Maybe a good idea to get the motor running in stock form in the truck before any mods?

Yeah I don't mind spending money on a built tranny, but I'd probably wait for it to blow up first since the truck is not a DD.

Would a stock zf5/zf6 hold up to that kind of power? Or is going built auto better?

Built auto is always better.
A zf5/6 would probably hold up if you're not beating on it. But for how long, who knows.
Running first, then mods. Otherwise you could end up chasing your tail, not knowing if it's a mod issue or something else.

if your e4 has been (properly) remaned before,then your e4 (with just the noted changes i mentioned) is already the same trans.

it would probably be a lot easier to find a parts truck.

the dash needs to be stripped and replaced with PSD wiring like stated, if you found a parts truck you can simply replace the dash.

keep your IDI wiring harness uncut, we need that stuff! lol

the internet is a tool, nobody believe's 100% of what they watch or read or they are an idiot. some real good info , I wouldn't let anybody work on my powerstroke, I do it myself.
