Help with gearvendors!!

So trying to get the gear vendors on the parts truck to work so someone with a c6 can enjoy it- the box doesn't light up at all. I am 75% sure when I bought it and couldnt get it running the box lit up. Anyone have installation instructions or wiring diagrams? or a source for any helpful info? just trying to figure out where they draw power from, if there are fuses inline, etc. This truck has so much aftermarket crap that i cant trace the wires too well.

There will be another box under the dash somewhere, That is where the power hits first, See if you can find it to see if you have power there.

Alright no power to computer! Thing is grounded to itself on a painted surface, not sure if that alone could be doin this? hmm ill get a pic

Fuse looks ok but I dont deal with this old school style fuse type much, will test with multimeter

Look to see if there is a foot operated light dimmer switch on the floorboard. I don't recall the year that your parts truck is, but if it uses a foot operated dimmer switch, look for a second one. A gear vendors that I had on a hopped-up muscle gear with 4.11 gears came with a foot operated dimmer switch that would enable the gear vendors unit.

hmm, this does have 2 foot dimmer switches! was wondering about that a few seconds ago. Aparently my multimeter fried this fuse somehow cause it no longer looks good, lets see if i hold the wires together and hit the foot switch if anything happens

EDIT-- attempted to actuate both high/low beam foot switches while holding the 12v wire to gv unit, nothing. are there any more hidden on/off switches on this thing? i could swear the manual/auto box lit up before I got the truck running...

Should those boxes only light up when truck is running? I have been doing these tests with key in run position but truck not running

The foot switch is to activate it in manual mode, and take it out of automatic mode. The green light should still go on.

One thing you can try, Take the 2 wires from the GV Silinoid, and wire them to a 12v switch. Jack up the rear end and start the truck, Put it in drive. Flip the switch and see if you can hear the GV switch gears.

Make sure that you have power to that red phono jack looking plug going into the computer and that the associated fuse is good. That is the main power to the computer. The light might not come on until the you are going over 20 mph too, indicating that it is 'available'. The GV itself will not engage under 20 mph, and if you have it engaged as you slow down, it automatically kicks out at 20mph.

damn that would explain it maybe!!! i keep blowing the fuse troubleshooting, good thing i bought a bunch!

Going to throw a new fuse in and go drive around- see what happens.

The power is connected horribly with the usual shoddy wiring so im thinking of redoing the power wire if it doesnt work.

Should my computer have any lights on before I hit 20mph? I have no lights on computer or the auto/manual switch box

Took it for a spin, got up to 35mpg, no mas.

Got home, fuse was popped again. I think the power wire situation is jacked up. Its raining now, if it stops I will go out there and wire up a new power wire from the passenger side under hood relay, see if that does any better...

Tomarrow when I can clear out a flat spot to jack the rear end up on I will try your idea darrin

If any of you currently have gear vendors, does anything on the computer light up when you turn the truck on? when do lights come on and what lights come on when?

Just wire around the fuse and see if the unit catches fire. If it engages and doesnt catch fire, you're golden.
But seriously, may be the wrong size fuse. He may have went with the wrong fuse from the beginning or just changed fuses and accidentally put the wrong size.

right on, was going to try that but was kind of nervous hooking it right up to the hot battery; didnt want to fry it. Might try that tomarrow. Emailed gearvendors hopefully can get some support from them; from everything I have read though its unlikely.

I wonder how often these computers fail? This unit is from 07 supposedly; hope its alright.
